Carriers asked to Disconnect iPhones
I was just reading smarthouse and saw this article http://www.smarthouse.com.au/Home/R7M6H8P9 .
I was actually wondering about this not so long ago, if Apple would take this stand with carriers. I personally cant see all the carriers being dictated by Apple like that (unless they are really desperate to get the contract), but it is an interesting thought.

the article sort of references the next apple iphone update standpoint and some telstra statements to create a new headline... - telstra need to realise that next g is there for the data speed not video chat as no one video chats...

What a joke...don't see it happening...how would they know anyway? All the companies care about is getting your money.
I'm switching to Virgin anyway...and it isn't really in the running are they?
Just headline grabbing

Apple says a lot of things, Hopefully this is incorrect.
There are ways to get around this I can think of only one way of knowing which devices are iPhones.
Also, locking out all phones except those activated for aussie use would lock out travelers from other countries when roaming - If there is some central database for the phones, i'll just activate my iphone with an AT&T prepaid account.

Apple should just make an unlocked iPhone and sell it for an extra $100.00 for those who dont want to be locked in. Not that its gonna happen, but geeze, there is soo much energy and effort being wasted purely because this thing is locked, and everyone wants to use it.
Apple is famous for making things simple, why the hell (yes i know its all about money and power) have they made this such a difficult and frustrating process.

it isn't difficult if you live in the US and use AT&T, they want the profits off the contract bills and to rewad the carriers for their visual voicemail and systems setup...

Give it a year or two and I can see Apple no longer locking their phones...they needed the help to get set up...hence sign a deal with the devil...
..or is Apple becoming more and more evil everyday...possibly?

as the The Architect.mac said, its all about revenue for apple.
arn't 02 handing over 40% of all the revenue they receive from the Iphone to apple!! that a sweet deal right their.
i dont think Telstra is going to bend t these strong arm tactic's that apple are playing and its quite evident in that article i think

I can fairly confidently say that Carriers are unconcerned with users of unlocked phones. Revenue is foremost in their mind and blocking someone from their network because of the handset they use is extremely unlikely.
