iPhone shortage
I just got a call from the US. Seems allot of the folks buying bulk orders of iPhone. For resale have been blocked by Apple. And a restriction of 5 iPhones per customer inforced.
Also in the same phone call I was informed. That an update for iPhone will come out by friday. This is going to cause some issue as many are feeling the loop hole we have used will be closed. Also if you need to reload the firmware even with the old version 1.02 you will be forced into the new version. All of the firmware talk is speculative but it is a known fact. iTunes does talk home when doing a firmware install.
Also my caller from the US is now suspending his iPhones sales & trying to get any stock he can of current version. As he feels the price for an unlocked iPhnoe is going to go sky high.
I do hope someone comes out with a way to reload iPhone without using iTunes. As in time we are all going to need a reinstall for some reason.
Cheers Scott

Might be a good idea to keep a copy of the 1.0.2 firmware on hand.

The guy who called me thinks turbo sim will be safe. We never talked about the pin out unlock.
I do have faith a gui will come that can put iPhone to a virginal state of any software version. Also there will come an unlocked firmware load that we will install. Much the same way we do app tap. But this will just take time for the clever folks to figure out. After this comes about Apple will have no hope in controlling iPhone.

I have my iPhone working perfectly so I will not mess about unless it is absoultly necessary. As when I was unlocking I had issue with anysim & then ran unlock from Erica Sadun which did the trick.
Also slightly diff subject but I called Telstra up today and got a 3 gig data pack per month for my mobile number. Cost was $5 for 1 gig or $8 for 3 gig.

WTF?!
Excuse the profanities, but can you link to / describe the product that you signed up for? I'm paying $109/mth for 1Gb of mobile data on my iPhone, and $59/mth for 200Mb on my wife's iPhone. Both are on business NextG plans from Telstra.
Sounds like I'm getting seriously ripped off! More information greatly appreciated!

Uh...either you misheard or the consultant was incredibly stupid...the data packs are $5 for 1 megabyte, and $8 for 3 megabytes. Not gigabytes.
Also, Telstra have just released updated pricing for Data Packs, now available here.

Aaah, makes much more sense. Guess I'll just keep paying stupid data prices for the moment...

I didn't find the plan the sales consultant did. All I could find was these plans in mb. I have looked all over Telstra for the plans they seem to have everything hidden. Just like the plans for wifi as that was what I called about first. But they started asking me questions about my wifi. And I didn't want them to know I was wanting for my iPhone. So I asked about edge data & the lady came back with these plans. So I said cool that shall work. Then they had trouble adding to my account so they had to get a supervisor to perform. I am worrying about what the charges will be like going over my amount each month. So I am going to call tomorrow & see what that will be as I forgot to ask.

I might add I am keen to find some free wifi about melb. I thought McDonalds had but you need a Telstra wifi account to use.
When I use my wifi at home iPhone rocks. Edge isnt that bad but a person can soak up 10gig easy in a month just looking at web pages.

W9cae - if you jump on IRC I can help explain it, or add me to MSN. Trust me, you're not getting 3GB. The page I linked to contains the new data packs, and these are probably the ones they were putting on today.
As for Wifi, you can have Telstra WiFi Hotspot access billed back to your Telstra Mobile account, at a 25c connection fee and 20c/Minute. You can also purchase a Phone Away card and use the number on the back and your rates will be 20c/Minute. For any other Telstra WiFi pre-sales enquiry, call 1300 131 816
