Advice please on nextG mobile
G'day all
I'm a CDMA phone user in rural Victoria and the network is being turned off in January. Work is offering me a choice of two NextG phones and I was wondering if both/either would be good to sync contacts, calendar etc with OS X. Can't find definitive answers yet online but will keep looking.
In the meantime I thought someone here might have some experience with the 'LG TU 550' or the 'Nokia 6120 Classic'. I like the look of the Nokia but the LG has better reception in rural areas. This is an issue but not a deal maker. Otherwise the features are similar.
As a Mac user at home it would be nice to be able to sync the phone to OS X.
Cheers
Steve

The 6120 Classic does have "unofficial" iSync support: http://the.taoofmac.com/space/Nokia/6120
Also take a look at http://nokia.com/mac for official support some time soon.

Please remember, if you're a rural customer than you should be looking at the LG TU550 handset as it provides the best coverage in fringe areas.

Thanks Exocet, I noted the extra reception of the LG. Neither are currently supported by iSync, the Nokia is supported by a third party solution and is likely to be supported by Apple soon. No LG phones seem to be supported by iSync because of some basic incompatibility apparently.
I've gone with the Nokia as my useage is very low and usually in towns or cities (although there is no CDMA reception in my office!). South west Victoria is not really all that remote and coverage is OK.
rickyd, how have you found the Nokia?
Cheers
Steve

The best phone I've used. Everyone that has used it likes it. One of the best Nokia phones in a long time. Great features. Adding your own events/to do's is pretty easy, so it isn't too bad. 2MP camera is good, and I love the simplicity with SMS and in-call optionss.
You will love it.

Certainly then Steve, the 6120cl is a great phone. It would be one of the few Nokias that I would own myself. The menu is quick, responsive and its stable as a handet. Very few complaints from customers too

If you can wait a few weeks - Sony Ericsson look like releasing the K850i which from the specs will be NextG!
I suspect then it won't be long at all until your work would offer that one as well?
Even buy the phone yourself - and then put your work SIM in it?

Thanks DJY
As usual we had only until Monday next week to decide between the Nokia or the LG.
My organisation treats us like kids - we were only 'upgraded' to Windows XP and Office 2003 last December.
I'm so glad I convinced the family to switch to Mac at home!
By all accounts the Nokia will do me - a mobile phone luddite.
I take a Palm, a GPS and an iPod wherever I go. A phone only if I'm forced to. One day there will be a gadget that has all in one plus phone and Mac compatible...
Cheers all

had the LG550 which was okay - got it after i returned by zte 500 coz it was crap and had no reception in fringe areas - even though told sales person i wanted it to work in fringe area. Anyway really wanted nokia - but they wouldn't sell it to me coz it didn't have tick of approval for fringe reception. anyway LG got nicked and is replaced with Nokia 6120Classic and it is heap brilliant - works where LP550 didn't - amazing coverage and get up to four bars where LG would not work. Ok keys are small - but I like it does a great job. Drover from Melbourne to Griffith and didn't lose coverage. n
all i need now is the ability to link it to the mac and i will be happy.

I have the 6210 on 3 and must say that I love this phone. Although the support for the 6210 is unofficial, its a matter of placing a file to recognise the phone in the library directory. Once you have the file in there isync works as expected. I am also using this phone as a modem since I've moved to a new place which doesn't have phone or internet as of yet, and both the connection through bluetooth and usb is great.
On a side note, I also use this as a TomTom through a bluetooth gps unit. You won't regret getting this phone, and best of all, its a simple good looking phone.

the 6110 navigator may be many things, but one thing it certainly is not is good looking.
