Why No 16GB iPhone?

One would think that the UK announcement would be right for introducing a 16GB iphone...the chips are there. Unless there isn't enough supply for both the touch and the iphone why would they not put it in the iphone?

Everyones thoughts on this?

I think they might just want to keep the price down as low as possible. As soon as you give people the 16Gb option most will buy that and then complain how high the price is.

It's too soon to start doing hardware upgrades.

Cannibalising iPod touch sales?

Trying to get rid of all of the millions of Rev A 8GB iPhones the produced across as many different territories as they can before they start foisting the 16/32GB revB 3G iPhones on everybody and 'force' them to upgrade.

My guess is that they wan't to differentiate the two products more. In a weird way, it would be like offering Nano's with the same storage as a classic...if that makes sense lol.

By keeping the iphone no greater than 8gig, they are helping define it more as a phone and the touch more as a media device (hence more storage)

That said, I would love a 16gig iPhone and I have no doubt they will soon arrive...perhaps when the touch gets bumped to 32gig

I'm going to take a stab and say we won't see a 16gb iPhone until the 32GB iPod Touch is announced. It allows them to differentiate enough and keep the same price point.
