iPhone & Nokia car kit

I'm receving an iPhone next week and was wondering whether or not anyone has had any experience in pairing it with BT devices, namely the Nokia BT handsfree car kit. I'm talking about the one which is hard wired in to the head unit, not the porable cigarette lighter version.

I'm assuming it will connect OK as any other phone with BT would.

if you have had success in the past pairing BT devices with that particular handsfree kit, my money is on the iphone being able to as well. Bluetooth should work across the board.

Well the phone's working a treat and I'm please to say that it interfaces better with the Nokia BT car kit than the Nokia itself does.

With the Nokia whenever you typed a text or performed any function on the phone it would always interrupt the stereo as if it was waiting for a call to come through, very annoying!! It also used to interrupt the stereo when it first connected to the BT, not a biggie but could be annoying sometimes.

The iPhone doesn't interrupt the stereo unless you are actually making or receiving a call. So i can type a text or perform other functions and still be able to listen to my head unit. It also pairs silently which is nice. The one button answer with the Nokia unit also works so all is good!!

Hi Garbo,

What is the model of the Nokia BT car kit?

Im interested in hooking my iPhone into my car stereo and am thinking about installing a Neo iON.

I'm pretty sure it's the Nokia CK-7W. It goes directly into the Clarion multimedia head unit so when the phone rings the head unit mutes and the call comes through the speaker.

I reckon I'd be more inclined to go the Harman/Kardon drive + play ahead of the unit you're looking at. It not only provides a link for the ipod into your head unit (via direct fm antenna input or aux if your car has it), but also provides an aux link in itself so you can also hook up a BT car kit. Plus, it provides a handy screen and control interface so navigating your ipod is easy and safe. I had that in my last car and was really happy with it. They're down in price now too, around the $200 mark and are easy to install yourself. I saw the mark 2 at macworld this year which also shows album art and is BT compatible, but i'm not sure it's released yet.

BEWARE though, i find it hard to believe that any of these units will work with the iphone or touch. the clarion doesn't work with the iphone, I can assure you of that, but they are working on releasing a compatible cable.

mine did not pair with my MIO C520 (GPS/handsfree), where my nokia 6131 had no trouble, I think I'll sell the MIO and get a Tomtom 720
