Apple's not allowed to put an FM tuner in the iPhone until they make a Radio Remote that's compatible with the iPod touch. I miss that thing.

iPods don't even have an FM tuner, you need special headphones to get radio, and they don't even work on an iPhone/iPod touch.

Apple doesn't do radio. People need to realise Apple doesn't do any kind of media where you don't get to choose. That's why Apple has the iTunes Music store, Podcasts, TV shows, Movies and Movie Rentals and it's why they will never have any kind of built in TV tuner or built in FM tuner in any of their devices. It's a step backwards to them.

One page back. Although that was just a TUAW story on the story, no one's posted the original.

Hence the "-" minus sign.

A confession: I currently use a Walkman phone.

The reason for this confession is that it has a built in FM tuner. The thing is, I never use it. In fact, the few times I have used it I quickly remember
  1. that I hate the inanities that FM breakfast and drive DJs prattle on about;
  2. that I hate the fact that it has the same tired format whatever station you listen to;
  3. that I hate that the DJs are so full of themselves and their own self importance that they never shut up and get on with the music;
  4. that when a member of the public rings up to participate in whatever load of crap the DJs have cooked up, they show they are even more stupid than the DJs, which apart from really saying something, makes me embarrassed to be the same species.

So I don't as a rule use the FM tuner. The Walkman function though, gets used heavily. So from my perspective an FM tuner in an ipod/iphone would be classified as an extremely low priority.

I must admit that if it had an AM tuner I might use it for AM and PM on the way to and from work when something significant was happening, at least until the pinkos that lurk at Aunty really piss me off and I go back to the Walkman.

edit: Kuma, the minus sign wasn't clear it was a minus sign, I was a bit confused when i read your post and apparently so were a few others - I worked out what you meant though.

how about this for an idea, internet sharing using wifi on the iphone to move the connectivity to your macbook (air).

everyone has a phone, and most a latptop, who needs a silly usb hsdpa modem when it can be shared easily to your mac over wifi?..

Yeah, if that's not an included feature, I will jailbreak to do it. I think we have a good chance of it being a feature, because we WILL have data limits in australia, unlike the US where it was unlimited and they thought you would download too much with tethering.

Ah, the space between the sign and the number just made it look like a dash.

Well, looks like JUNE 10 is the day.

Quote:
With just over two weeks to go before Steve Jobs strides upon the stage at the Moscone Convention Center for his WWDC keynote speech where he is expected to unveil the iPhone 2, aka the 3G iPhone, the big question has been: when will the 3G iPhone actually go on sale?

Although some have predicted it might not arrive until later in the year, the unavailability of the iPhone from the US Apple store truly signals only one thing: the 3G iPhone will go on sale from June 9 in the US, or so says Gizmodo US, which for countries like Australia means June 10 thanks to time zone differences.

A guy from vodafone just call me, trying to tell me about this new cap they have on offer, as I wasn't interested i said; call me back when the iPhone is for sale . he replied "Yes! Vodafone has won the contract and the iPhone will go on sale either the end of this week or next."

I told him that Optus had also signed an agreement with Apple, which shut him down.

He clearly had no idea what he was talking about, just trying to make a quick sale.

My $0.02 - I don't reckon the iphone will be released before the apple store opens.

And... I listen to the radio on commute to have a bit of a laugh and catch up on the news headlines and traffic. I know it's not a priority, just gauging opinion.

I do find it annoying that the iphone and Touch aren't compatible with the FM Remote. Surely it's just a matter of including the functionality in the firmware?
