Majority of phones in the market are all single simmed, why would Apple make the iPhone (a device that is very easy to use) have two sims?

I haven't forgotten, just that it would be a step backwards - many might think "oh but it will only be $400 in two months time". As I said, it's anyone's guess on price points as we will have various levels of network subsidising.

A 3G phone has a backwards compatible SIM slot, so what you are describing would be 1x2G slot and 1 x 2G/3G slot, which I'm 100% sure won't happen.

two sims sounds fine to me if the second data sim can make use of this:
Vodafone Store / Mobile Phone Plans & Deals / Huawei USB Modem / Mobile Broadband / 5GB Mobile Broadband for $39/month
tack that onto a cheap voice plan and perfect

That's what I'm hoping, but on the one sim. Shouldn't matter if you tether it either, as you have limited data and they don't even have to give you the 3G modem (maybe handy if it could go off the same account tho).

kind of disappointing vodafone don't have a $39 a month voice plan to add to it, $80ish a month is about what I want.. instead I'll be forced mostly likely to $70 a month and only $130 cap a month or $90 a month a more phone calls than I need . 3 need to get on this bandwagon, tbh

Ok, I just rang my friend at the Vodafone office in Chatswood and asked him about the two sim thing being discussed here, his reply was - "Nope, definitely not"
He said that Vodafone has an internal tech/specs info thingy on their screens that they can look at. He did say it was definitely 3G. He can't confirm the release date accept to say that it is sooner than people think. He also said that even he doesn't know what the plans/cost will be.
Not many people at Vodafone know anything at all about the iPhone at all, including my friend who is a director or some such.
As with anything, take that as you will.

this information above is incorrect,
the device cannot be on 2 bands at the same time, it can hand a call between bands, and a umts device can create multiple connections to the network (multirab) so you can have data and voice at the same time with different grades of service on the (3G) side.
but no device on the market today can have data on 3g and voice on 2g at the same time. and no device will offer this in 1 single device with 1 sim card.
see the specs for confirmation
