While I can't really estimate the price here I would say that the price in america will either be the exact same as the 1st gen, or only a very tiny amount more. Apple have already sold iphones to a LOT of people, and they need to be able to convince at least some of them that the upgrade is worth it, increasing the price is not the way to do that.

Well Apple has traditionally maintained a constant price point while introducing upgrades, so there is a chance the 3G iPhone will cost the same.

It would cost more than $700 US for a 32gb iPhone.
I predict a 16gb 3G iPhone will cost $599 in the US, maybe $700 Australian, I even doubt there will even be a 32gb version available right away, it destroys the iPod touch advantage in size.

Hmm... The only time I've seen apple increase price for a new model was the Macbook replacing iBook. The iPod/iPhone line has only ever become the same money for more storage or cheaper for more storage. Currently, the 16GB model is $499 US, so I'd hope that would be the price-point for the new one too. The confusing thing is the locked/unlocked pricing. However, we can hope for a legitimately unlocked one that $499 - $599US will be right on the money.

People seem to be forgetting the iPhone was originally launched at $599, it could very well happen again.

LOL, well that's a bombshell.
Dual sims sounds unusual, esp one for calls, the other for data. I can't quite see the practicality of that. It would be far more useful to be able to put one work sim and one personal sim in the same phone.

Why would a phone need two SIM slots? Every other phone on the planet seems to manage just fine with one for data and voice. And the rumours have been the Optus would be exclusive, if any. I call BS.

I guess it could be one for data and one for calls as suggested.
Perhaps that allows the data to be taken from a different network even? For example, calls through Virgin and data through Voda. Although highly doubtful... The iPhone doesn't even get the contacts from the Sim card.

Two sims (probably) means more battery usage, hence the 3G iPhone wont have two sims.

It could be (and I'm really just guessing here) that the two different SIM slots are for the two different TYPES of SIM cards. ie one for regular GSM and one for UTMS (or whatever it's called).

Current UMTS phones have twin antennas so that voice can be maintained on GSM while data continues on 3G where both networks are available...perhaps that's what he got confused over.
