Mechon, not that late just a bit later! Ok then, he said towards the end of winter.

Maybe others were expecting it then, but I was expecting sooner (end of June/start of July).

Ok going out on limb, I think the announcement is this week perhaps as early as tonight.

I think there has been to much info coming out and form factors such as the covers for this to be to far off.

Apple controls these thing very well and I can't see so many business associates being able to make announcements unless it was very close.

Also I think they will want the focus at WWDC on what it can do not on the acutal unit. Going now means they get 2 bangs for their bucks.

The release announcement (preorder with end of june delivery, which may also deal with the 6 week FCC approval) and then the WWDC application announcements and final form SDK release.

To support this Google has said that they are going to have apps day one, again suggesting they know a fair bit about the actual unit and not just the SDK.

Of course all of the above it just my reading of the situation and not based on anything other than stringing different bits together.

Im going to disagree...i dont think Apple (Steve Jobs) will pass on an opportunity to get up on the stage and milk the excitement that is the 3G iPhone. I dont expect any announcement until WWDC. But if it is announced before, then i think we can expect something else being announced at WWDC.

Yes, but is it possible it could be launched and then showed off by Jobs at WWDC in a kind of yes, now its out, here is what amazing things it can do plus here is what's coming up/available on it etc.

I still think it would be cool for him to get up and talk about it, even if it was released a week or two before, it's still going to be awesome. Perhaps he could have a "one more thing" as a reward to early adopters. It's a pretty out there statement I know but just throwing it out there..

I'll disagree for different reasons.

WWDC is and always has been about developers. Consumer products are not traditionally released at WWDC.

Also, the FCC is USA *only*. It does not apply to other countries. I'm going to do some math and assume that Sydney Apple Store opening (sooner rather than later if my sources are correct) + 3G iPhone launch here in AU = releasing a product + allowing for the ~6 week FCC clearance to allow the product to be released in the USA for the AT&T blackout period (ok so the period is a little out of skew but not far). What better way for Apple to get a *butload* of publicity.. 'here's our new flagship Australia store and the brand new iPhone!' *queue the presses*.

The Apple store in Sydney is opening sooner than later, and the approval process for the 3G iPhone in AU is very different to the FCC.

If you are going to be wrong, at least don't act towards others with a patronising attitude when YOU don't understand.

The latest iPod nano rumours came from case designs, then it was released 3 days later. Apple doesn't give out pictures, only dimensions. Otherwise how would cases come out alongside products? Obviously, they don't for things that we have NO idea about, like the MBA, as plenty of laptop cases already existed.

As for the iPhone, if you are unaware of a 3G model, some case on a website isn't going to be any more informative than Steve announcing it himself at MWSF 2007. Remember that this gives away virtually NOTHING about the new iPhone, just its approximate size.

Ok, now that the plastic back seems sort of plausible, is there a chance that the extra bulk is a removeable battery?
/And how sad am I to want to order one of those cases *now*.

That reminds me - the sales guy at the Vodaphone store (on Saturday 17/5) said they wouldn't have it for another 5 months. After that, I went to the Optus store.

1. A iPod Nano is hardly a pillar in the apple line up, and certainly isnt as rumoured or anticipated as the next gen iPhone
2. Don’t you think Apple will have learnt their lesson from the case you quote
3. Surely apple would be dealing with more of a brand name than “EXO” IF they had already supplied dimensional data for cases<O
4. Your last point is moot as who would be looking for a case for a 3g iPhone except those that know one is coming<O
<O</O

Look up Vaja cases. They have a 3G case section, but it says "coming soon" so they most likely know the dimensions and have already designed/produced cases to be bought when the iPhone is released.

Also, you can request confidentiality when dealing with the FCC. It is only when it is fully approved that it must appear publicly. Apple can delay this to coincide with its release. I believe the first iPhone launch wasn't submitted to the FCC for several weeks after its announcement - it was because Apple weren't ready to submit it, not that they were unable to do it quietly.

I made no mention of a Nano :P

Which lesson? They've never had to release a phone outside the USA as a first-time release. I dont want to reveal my sources but they are usually very reliable. I'm more inclined to believe them than not.

What does that have to do with my 2c of when it will be released

<o></o>
Which point? It's all down to hearsay and conjecture at present. I seriously hope my sources are correct. If so, look forward to the 3G iPhone *very* soon

The iPod nano is BY FAR the pillar of the iPod lineup. It sells the best, always has.

I'm going to say August, it gives a couple of months after WWDC for approval and such, and there were rumours in the New York Times that Europe was getting it in August.
http://www.nytimes.com/2008/05/06/te...rssnyt&emc=rss

I'm fine with August though, gives me more time on my current phone so it'll be cheaper to cancel when it comes out, and it means I'll have more time to save and won't have to blow all my tax return on a phone.
