Telstra overcharge for everything, I wish people would do research before connecting anything with them!

These are not real apple promo shots.
i bet the promo shots for the new iPhone will show extra icons on the home screen, definitely an icon for the appStore if nothing else. Wouldnt be surprised if the homescreen gets a few diff tweaks as well, as apple often does with major new releases.

Yeah, my current phone is (sadly) with telstra and data is 2c/KB = $2/MB which is bad enough. Recently, I used 2ish MB and they tried to charge me $36. When I called and said that $2 x 2 does NOT equal $36, they said "actually it is $1/MB" and tried to sell me a data plan for an extra $5 a month. After explaining that a) I used piss all data and b) $5 of my credit goes towards my included data, the best they could do was disable data on my phone, and charge me $6 (because 2 x 1 apparently equals 6 remember?). I will have no remorse in switching to someone else for the iPhone.

Keep in mind that each GPRS session takes up a certain sized slot on the network and backhaul that could be used for voice. As mentioned, GPRS/EDGE is packet data. Coupled with the fact a lot of Mobile Towers only have 2mb microwave backhaul to aggregation points and other towers, if they were to make the cost of data low, the usage will increase proportionally. The more use it gets, the less slots there will be for actual voice calls. GPRS is shocking for tying up channels that could be used for voice, which is where the telcos make their bread and butter. It's also the reason that GPRS is artificially reduced in speed to consume less slots than it can actually use. Fiscal policy at its finest The USA has more cells, more subscribers and due to its population density, backhaul costs are lower and more plentiful than the pittance 2mb most cell providers use here.

1mb = approx 1000kb
2c x 1000 = $20
They might have a rate of 1mb = $2 but not because of the kb rate.

If the price of 750 euros is to be believed ( from a 10 second google) then;
750 Euros = 1 228.33158 Australian dollars
which sounds expensive, but considering that my Sony Ericsson w880i just can't compete with an iPhone I'm thinking its probably right, though people will scream bloody murder if it's over $1000.
The thing is, with Macbooks starting at $1500, will a $1200 mobile phone with no contract be justifiable?
Ah well I guess we find out soon enough.
If its around $1000, I'll buy one. But I'd like to see it cheaper so I can buy two, one for me and one for the wife

Well how much subsidising is on the current iPhones in the US? Surely not a lot, seeing as there's nothing stopping someone from buying one and not activating it. Would I be right in saying that Apple break even from the initial cost and their earnings from AT&T is all profit? If not, they would lose a lot of money from hacked iPhones.
$1200 sounds way too much. I was guessing $600 for the top model, as that is still more than the Americans pay, but then again I don't know how much subsidising there is. Maybe $750 would be about right for an unlocked iPhone. Though what is right and what IS are too different things.

the price may go up there as well. we just dont know....
to be honest... im almost getting sick of all these "what if"s and "i think"s
just wait and see....

The only reason France's iPhone €750 unlocked is because they HAD to unlock it, by law. Because they had their revenue sharing deal with Orange (which they've obviously abandoned) they wanted to discourage people from buying unlocked phones. Any unlocked 3G iPhone will likely cost the same, or a bit more than what they cost now, not $1200AUD. I'll bet that it will cost between $629, the current price of a 32gb iPod touch, and therefore a 16gb iPhone (this formula holds up across all markets), and $750. You need to realise that having an iPod touch at $500 for 16gb, and having the exact same thing but with a Phone cost $700 more doesn't make any sense.

There's no Parallels icon, either.
Which is the conclusive proof it's a fake.
