What's really nuts is CNN's use for it, the Magic Wall.

Getting much bigger you most well use your mac.. I still want it to be a phone with the features of a computer not a small laptop for my pocket.

I agree, the current iPhone is the perfect size for what it is, If I needed anymore I'd just use a laptop, or if there was one, a normal tablet. A mini tablet that's not quite as small as an iPhone and not quite as big as a tablet is pretty useless to me.
Also, what OS is this mini tablet going to run? If it's the same OS as the iPhone aren't developers who've developed for the iPhone resolution going to be a little mad that their app doesn't scale well? Or will it run the same OS but need different apps? That just makes things more complicated than they need to be. Will it be a new type of OS? I doubt it, why would Apple enter ANOTHER market.

I can't imagine Apple Australia being too happy about this at all.

That's disgusting...
Talk about gouging the poor Australian who aren't better informed.
Then again, it has been popping up on the major news sites for ages now but still..

New development..
Intel: Apple tablet comment simply untrue
Intel Corp. today is scurrying to clean up a mess made by Germany's ZDNet on Wednesday when it reported that an Intel exec had confirmed the ongoing development of a iPhone-like tablet at Apple, a report which the chipmaker now claims is patently false.

Orange lands broad iPhone distro deal too - Engadget
Orange has a wide deal to sell the iPhone now in Austria, Belgium, the Dominican Republic, Egypt, Jordan, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Switzerland and Oranges African markets. It's painfully obvious Apple has abandoned the model it first pursued with the iPhone. The fact that so many carriers have the phone and there's multiple carriers in many countries means it's pretty likely Apple will sell their own unlocked version.
Orange brings the iPhone to customers in Europe, Middle East and Africa

Multiple carriers does not equate to selling an unlocked handset.

No it doesn't, but it's a good possibility.

Would apple bother with locking phones to different networks? Which carrier would they stock? Surely they'll just sell it unlocked. Carriers trying to lock users onto their network through handsets is old

Apple will probably settle on a hefty RRP. Carriers can then use whatever contracts they like to subsidize/price-compete.

Vodafone hawking 3G iPhone - in Australia
Apparently Vodafone has been calling around to loyal customers who are using the 2G iPhone and asking if they want to upgrade to the 3G iPhone when it comes here.

The caller then went on to say that our source could upgrade to a 3G model for $0 upfront if he signed up to a $79 per month plan for 24 months a total plan cost of $1849.
|
Interesting. I have no idea about mobile phone plans, is that expensive?

Pressed for more details as to when the phone would actually appear, the sales person said that the 3G model would be announced "next month" (presumably pointing to a WWDC unveiling) and that Vodafone would have it "a couple of months" after its announcement. Of course, it's important to take these estimates with a spoonful of salt, as sales staff are not always the most reliable indicators of when a product will be available.

Sounds okay for $0 upfront. I noticed that vodafone do mobile broadband for $40 a month for $5GB. Maybe this would be $40 towards the phone part and $40 for the 5GB of data?
I'd rather pay $400 upfront if it meant I could have a ≤$40 a month plan with a dozen call minutes and a decent amount of data.

Free 3G iPhone for $79 plan for 2 years. Yeah, that could work if the dataplan is decent.

Not if it has decent data. By comparison Vodafone is offering the N95 8GB for $79 a month with $0 up front. That's a cap and it didn't say if the iPhone was too.
For a high end phone $80 a month isn't unheard of. It's probably more economical to buy one outright and get a cheaper plan from whatever carrier.
