i wonder how apple will treat voda after this "release" unless they have a different form of agreement, the other players might have some recourse. if the announcement date was "pencilled" in for another day if i was another player, and was following a time frame/guideline, id be talking to my legal department. seems voda kind of slipped on the info (to me)..

I'd say that they knew what they were doing. Everyone now has to wait a wee while longer to see if Optus / Telstra etc. come up with their own information.
Remember to Apple, Vodafone announcing 10 countries is bigger than 1 carrier in Australia... so it makes sense that they won't have a song and dance about it.
One article made me laugh, saying that Apple Australia did not do the deal.... As if SJ would hand this off to anyone else. It's his puppy.

I reckon vodaphone stocks will jump as a result. A shame about the poor coverage by vodaphone here. They seem easy to deal with, but just lousy reception here in rural far north queensland.
Perhaps things will improve as they roll out iphones?

ok, ok so i was wrong about there not being any phones with 900MHz and now you prove me wrong about there being no modems!
Let me rephrase, there are almost no phones or modems that support 900MHz band for 3G, let us hope that the new 3G iPhone includes quad band G3 support so that we are not forced to bend over and take it up the klacksy from tel$tra Same G to get fast wireless broadband.
happy!

TELECOMMUNICATIONS company Optus will invest $315 million to extend the coverage of its mobile network to reach 98 per cent of the Australian population.
Optus chief executive Paul O'Sullivan said the extension of the network, from the current 96 per cent coverage, would make Optus the only carrier capable of challenging Telstra's network reach.
"With this significant expansion we will be the only mobile carrier capable of challenging the incumbent's network reach," Mr O'Sullivan said.
"We will deliver superior coverage and wireless services across the country and drive increased market share for Optus."
Optus said the expansion would bring wireless, voice and broadband services to another two per cent of the population. It is expected to be completed by December 2009.
The network will extend coverage to reach areas such as Fitzroy Crossing in Western Australia, Tumby in South Australia through to Weipa in far north Queensland, Optus said.
At least 750 new base stations will be added to the network, extending Optus's mobile network coverage by 400,000 sq km and giving it a total network coverage of more than one million sq km.
Optus said as at December 31, 2007, it had more than seven million mobile subscribers.

By the time that upgrade is completed the Optus network will also be up to 28.8Mbps.

Fake. That thing in the top left hand corner that I guess is a camera is out of perspective compared to the home button and ear piece. If there is going to be a front camera, it will be a pin hole hiding in the black like the iSight on iMacs.

Sarcasm doesn't translate so well on forums. Some posters would actually think its real (and judging from the comments on Macrumors, there were a few).

With AT&T blocking the same no-vacation period in June as they did last year, it's as good as confirmed. June 27 2008 is looking like the official date.
