I guess the next step will be for other networks to announce it.. they may hang on until closer to release to get fresh publicity. I'd guess the Vodafone reason is to catch people who are ready to upgrade now... but will now wait a few more months.

Then they'll have to fire their entire marketing department and probably a few senior managers as well.

Does anyone think Apple really cares? Other than a Japanese announcement (which still seems to be well off the radar), Voda announcing it themselves is how I would expect it to be done. Wasn't this also the case for Germany and France? Apple's primary market has always been the US market - everywhere else is just icing on the cake.

"..signed with Apple to sell the iPhone in ten markets, including Australia, the Czech Republic, Egypt, Greece, Italy (so much for Telecom Italia), India, Portugal, New Zealand, South Africa and Turkey."
Look at those countries - all of which have higher 3G penetration than the US market.
Across all those countries the major UMTS frequencies of 850mhz and 2100mhz have been covered.
India for instance is 3G heavy and a non-3G service there would be shooting themselves in the foot. This coupled with the word of a 3G iPhone in Italy (albeit a non Telecom Italia one - but remember that T.I. declined to comment but Vodafone HAVE commented which falls in line with the lack of locking in of exclusive revenue sharing deals that have been speculated) and the other general rumours floating around... I'm quite confident we can expect the 3G handset locally.

I'm so pleased it's Vodafone.
They bend over backwards to be helpful with every other pie they have their finger in.

I doubt Vodafone will have it exclusively. All the carriers will get it.

Has Telstra (pardon my French) announced anything along the same lines yet?
I don't expect to see any handsets in stores at least until the signage on George St goes up (as per the Boston store)
