If a 3G iPhone were to b eannounced for Australia or other market in the next month or so, would it have to pass goverment approvals (eg. ACMA)?

Could be it, but now is also the time that the photoshop mockups/fakes will come out, too 
If it was real, why no more details? That could mean who ever took the shots only had a moment or two to sneak them and wasn't even supposed to get them, or it could mean its a photoshop job.

Not a chance.... it is a step backwards in design. Going to a dodgy cheap looking scratchy fingerprint prone back with a grey logo that doesnt stand out as much.....no way, Steve Jobs and Jon Ive will both be six feet under before it happens

My thoughts too Love the chrome edge on my iPhone, at a glance that one in the pic wont stand out next to the iPod Touch.
