It started out as iStat pro, then turned into iStat Menu, then turned into the hack to get iStat Pro to be permanently on the desktop.
Craig Seversen mentioned that he personally received an email from iSlayer on how to make iStat pro be part of the desktop.
Kudos!

Little surprise for all the private beta testers....
If you want credit for being a beta tester send me a pm with a name or nick you want us to use and we can link it to a website aswell if you want. Those who are interested will each get there name listed inside the iStat menus pref pane

I've noticed when I first log in the HD graph doesn't show anything (it appears empty) until I click on it, then it works. This is with Beta 8. Have seen it on my mac pro and iMac G5.

I'm interested just use my nick from here.
With the HD activity is it possible to get that plus one of the other opitons for example the vertical bar? Also is the activity the top arrow read the bottom write or is its just "Activity" top arrow as my bottom arrow seems to be stuck on all the time.

The installer says that you should logout and login to complete installation - all you really have to do is kill the SystemUIServer process. It'll re-launch itself within 3-4 seconds, and the updated iStat Menus will be there. This would be nice to have incorporated into the installer - logging out for an install unnecessarily isn't very user friendly.

I like the colours on the MM hard disk activity indicator - red and green make it much easier to see what's happening at a glance. Customisable colours would be great!

Yep but killing a core system process isnt that nice either. We might think about adding an option to do it but the default action will always be a restart
