Better than Canon and their plan of naming everything the same eg 1DsMkwhatever....
Queit mode looks intriguing on this! Good move.
SLR's are SOOOO noisy!

I hope the video mode is improved. It's practically useless unless you're using a tripod on the D90.

And I was on the verge of buying a D90 too with my rudd monies. Might hold off and grab one of these instead

Hmmmmmmm interesting. Grate now when I update my D90 I could go ether D700 or this new D500. Knowing I have all DX lenses, I guess the D500 could be a good option.

Edit:No autofocus motor built into the body, that is interesting, just like the D60. After reading up on the tech specs I would go for the D700 over the D500.

I don't know which new Nikon camera you're reading about, but this D5000 slots into the lineup below the D90. It certainly doesn't compare to a D700...

It is Tuesday. They are just trying to copy Apple with their product launches.

Sounds like a low end D90. Pity the lack of auto-focus motor

I quite like the idea of the swivel LCD. Good for overhead or low level focusing.

I would be quite happy though to consider a D700/D3 FX lcd sensor, HD video, swivel LCD, in built wireless transmit and GPS.

MMmm... I'm not a fan of swivel screens. I can't see how this thing won't get loose and wobbly or break over time. Anyway, it's an improvement over the 60, so well done Nikon.

This isn't the combination of fold-out screen and DSLR that I'll pay for. To me, it's closer to a D60/40x/40 than a D90 because of the single command dial, the lack of dedicated ISO & WB buttons, and no AF motor.

While fold-out LCDs are amazingly practical for anyone who photographs small kids or dogs at their level -- and I bought a Canon A650IS compact for that reason -- there are some features which I just can't do without on a DSLR. Yeah, I'm picky…
