I'm assuming the Ipod Touch caveat is if you have the Cradle.

It's the same in the Aus version, I didn't get a chance to get a shot.

To all of you who have already downloaded:

Would you mind confirming the following?
1) Does overspeeding audio warning now works? Also, can you choose your own sound?
2) Does overspeeding warning now allows a tolerance to be specified? i.e. only warn when exceeding user specified limit such as 5kph over, or 10kph under. Edit: Economic, thanks for your answer.
3) Does it now really let you specify which POI (more specifically schools) will provide warning when approaching it?
4) When approaching POI, can we say how far (e.g., 400m or 100m) when approaching before warning is given?
5) Has the red light and speed camera database really been improved. To answer this question, would you mind simulate from the Hillsong Church in Bella Vista to Beecroft Primary in Beecroft using the fastest route but avoiding toll charge. Then see if how many of the following safety cameras are included?
a) RED LIGHT camera while travelling on Showground road approaching Green/Victoria road intersection.
b) Driving along Pennant Hills Road approaching the Beecroft Road intersection. There should be a SPEED camera there.
The above safety cameras were not there before the current 1.2 update. Let's see if this is fixed. (These cameras are correctly included in Sygic)

If the answers to all my queries are positive, then I'll repurchase TomTom. Otherwise, Sygic is the still the King as far as I'm concerned. Looking forward to responses from your guys.

If it does everything as claimed, it will be better than Sygic, not just up there with Sygic.

No confirmation from anyone yet on my questions though.

Yeh, they haven't said where they will be sold though, except some retail outlets and the Apple store soon. It's listed in the American Apple store now, saying coming soon, but nothing on the Aussie store. I just went to Jb-HiFi, Harvey Norman and Next Byte this arvo and none of them knew anything about them, although NextByte said try Harvey Norman and kind of suggested they wouldn't be getting them.

TomTom, portable GPS car navigation systems

Walked past the Chaddy Apple store today, wonder if they had them.

Well... it depends on variables.

a) school zone warnings? probably not, except now they will be included as standard so you'll see the icon (anyone got TT 1.2 who can say there's an audible warning?)

b) something none of the others do... road speed in neat little white circle surrounded by red, easy to see at a quick glance. Especially useful in unfamiliar areas where the road speed signs are not always available or visible (thanks to young hoons who do antisocial things in dead of night)

I've been using Sygic for a few weeks now, but gave TomTom a spin in demo mode to test a few routes and it's not bad, I might have to use it full time.

The only thing I dislike is that when it tells me to leave my house, for some reason it tells me to drive up a side street, go 360 around a roundabout, then exit back on to the same streetI just entered and then turn left to the main road. I could just turn right out of my driveway and save that 600m useless trip! This could be because I used it in my backyard instead of in the driveway, I dunno.

I like Tom Tom's lane navigation thing, particularly for freeways when it gets a bit confusing as to where to stay.

It's also good how it pronounces street names - but almost every street is tries to say, it says it incorrectly "cob erg" instead of "coburg" and "nov arra parade" instead of "novara parade".

Demo mode can't be sped up - it's really annoying to see it in real time speed on long stretches of road. In Sygic you can set the demo to go at 400% to even 1600% speed. I like to usually see a demo of the trip I'm going to take before I take it.

I don't know which one I will keep on using - maybe if the tom tom gps assisted cradle can be readily found, I might use it instead. Or even buy a cheap iPod Touch, put it in the cradle and use it for pure GPS use.

LOL! None of them are perfect. I back out mof my driveway and I need to just go to the end of the street, but Sygic likes to take me round the block. Tomtom gets it right.

Sygic doesn't do a dreadful job, I'm assuming the advanced lane guidance is now on a par with the dedicated devices. And its good that they have finally got the maps up to date. The ones they have now, the 835 series is also the most recent on the dedicated device (and having said that, I need to get mine updated... maybe theres a new one that I don't yet know about)

I have yet to see a TTS that gets it completely right.

I'm going to wait and see the Magellan outcome before deciding. I may fall prey to the "must have it" and buy tomtom again, but its a bad time of year for me and every penny must be tightly controlled, so not yet. Maybe Magellan will have released by then. The car kit doesnt look too bad.

I am puzzled though... why is the TomTom cradle not yet available in Australia? One always feels that Oz is nearly at the bottom of the pecking order.
