Here is a novel idea... get a blackberry. That way you won't be annoyed at Apple.

I've got a funny feeling that the activesync stuff is going to be to do with battery life.

I switched to MobileMe because I can't stand the way that Notes duplicate themselves in mail when I use Gmail (No matter how many fixes I tried I couldn't stop it happening)

The thing I miss most about my gmail is the bubbly and colourful web interface. MobileMe looks so corporate in comparison.

It always amuses me when people complain "My work doesn't support Exchange syncing with the iPhone". Here's an idea, get a device on your IT dept's supported device list.

I bought MM because I wanted a non-free email account, even though gmail is well respected and I had firstname.lastname@gmail.com.

The calendar and contact sync over the air is much more convenient that syncing with outlook via iTunes as well especially as I need both up to date on 2 computers.

Even paying the $70 I paid for MM I think I paid more than it's worth but it's got a few features ya just kinda of want.

Ironically, at my work the IT crowd originally used the requirement for a RIM server as a reason not to get Blackberries, and now use the inability of the iPhone to use the BB server as a reason to not support iPhones. IT people really hate change.

Only *some* IT people hate change.

Most of us want change, change breaks thing, that means more work - that means more staff and more money for toys.

Maybe it is the dust we have here making everything fail...

It seems to be working now. I set it up again and left the options as the default eg only show last 3 days mail and it is working fine now...

Me too, works amazingly well... although I have now turned it off and gone back to IMAP for my mail. Like I said I want push for calendar and fetch for email, personal preference becuase of the way I work, but I'm good with that, not everything is for everyone

Works just dandy with Optus but you soon realize that Push is a battery pig. So -- nice as it is, I can live with Fetch

No ideas because I could only see a limited number of mails even though I had set mine to No Limit.

Gone back to IMAP until the dust settles....!

Hmm run into a slight dilemma...

I have a folder (or 'label') of emails in Gmail which wont now load up on my phone. It appears empty and checking for mail does nothing (even if i log into google and mark all the emails as unread)

Any ideas?

I'm still using gmail's free sms notification system to alert me to events if its something I really MUST get an alert for.

YES! That's what I do, I have my work calendar auto forward all appointments to my gmail calendar which is then synced with my iPhone along with my wifes calendar. I keep my personal stuff in my gmail calendar to I end up with both work and person in one place.
If I need to add something I can either add it via the gmail web interface if I'm at a PC or on the iPhone and it syncs across.

The only issue I have is that the work calendar is only one way, so if something is updated or or removed from the PC side it doesn't get reflected in my gmail calendar. This means I have to manually check it to ensure I don't have old dead meetings in my calendar. Not the best of solutions but you work with what you have.

I also use the free SMS service from before I set all this up, still there and still very handy since it's a much louder reminder and it repeats.
