It's ugly as sin. I think I'll wait and see how much Tom Tom is.

Very nice for an initial app.
I like that they've included both NZ and Aus, and that they say it's only a one time fee. Looking forward to having quite a bit of choice soon. Should make for some great features being developed. |

Ok got a question that's important to me, I always assumed the voice directions could be heard through bluetooth headphones when the software makes it to the app store, could anyone confirm this as I will be using it on the motorcycle with a bluetooth helmet headset?

I'll wait on this one... for an update and/or Tom Tom.
the audio thing bothers me, they just need to fix that in an update. I want to listen to a podcast, and have it speak over it, not stop the podcast audio. I have a car holder/charger/audio to stereo hookup in the car already. |

The real question is, will Tom Tom let us use maps with the iPhone we've already bought, or will we have to buy them over again? Cheers Steffen.

I've been using it all weekend. It is very accurate in both mapping and routing. The maps are far more up to date the Sensis ones (TomTom). Speed limits are all there and very up to date. It locks in <20sec but laggs for a little while until the number of sats gets up. The speedo is spot on when compare to my Golf SatNav. UI is fine for me, easy to use, simple and fast. The display is customizable as to what info you want to see.
It does have limited text 2 speech in that it will only announce road numbers like M5, A79 etc. You can adjust the sound only when it is talking, so go to the voice selection page and do it there. Only gripe is that it pauses the iPod while it is talking but does not resume. Easy to fix I assume. Overall I am very happy with it and will not be buying the TomTom one.

The maps in Sygic are taken from Whereis. Whereis is operated by Sensis.
You may just have outdated maps on your TomTom. |

There are a number of turn-by-turn apps in the pipeline (tomtom is one of a few), but as far as maps are concerned, there are around half a dozen map providers offering map data to software developers.
Most apps that I've seen so far (including Sygic's) use non-multi-touch ports of existing software. If you're wise, you'll wait for apps that exploit the usefulness of the iPhone's interface, and one which will cost LESS than a standalone GPS unit. (Declaration: I'm working with a team of developers on a new turn-by-turn product due out in around three months, based on an existing app - and if you wonder why it isn't ready now, it's because the new APIs are tricky to implement) |

I say well done to Sygic for being first-to-market. The app isnt perfect but it is more than adequate and very close to perfect IMHO. I suspect they are doing quite well by being in this position. Come three months i believe the market will be much more crowded. That will mean discounting, higher marketing costs and overall much more effort by companies and app developers to be "seen". |

OK, I said I wouldn't buy it, but I've always said I'd buy the first turn by turn to market, and, well, with the Big W thing.... I just went and bought $120 worth of iTunes cards for $90.
Downloading now, will maybe do in car youtube video later tonight. |

Bit of inner conflict?
