Got this work around from someone on the Whirlpool forum, worked for me and updating nicely as I type this.WHOO-HOO!

A trick I read on another forum that finally worked for me.

After you hit the update button, while it is extracting disconnect from the internet. The update will continue to go through. (Easiest way is to have network adapters window open and disable your adapter immediately after telling it to update.

My phone is working but I have no aftermarket apps yet.

Getting itunes errors telling me to try later when I try and update apps that need updating, itunes is backing up now before syncing the existing apps.

Trying to re download apps as we speak, the app download progress bar is stationary.
Maybe the app server is overloaded as well?

Crap, i keep getting the: "iTunes store could not complete your store request. An unknown error occured..."

And this is all after downloading and installing, the phone now only shows the: "plug into itunes screen" HELPPP.
