Default How 'ready' is iPhone 3.0 beta?

Were not allowed to talk about installing the iPhone 3.0 beta, by 'certain' means (that we know arent exactly legal) here are we?

If we are how ready is the iPhone 3.0 os? too buggy to use as 'everyday'?
those features are a must have for me. And im sure we all dont really want to wait until june or july.

If you even obtain the 3.0 ipsw you will just brick your phone until you either become a dev OR the real 3.0 is released in 4 months :P

PS. Its quite stable but 90% of features are useless or disabled due to no applications using them yet (PUSH) however mms and net tethering is getting there...

I'm going to wait till the next beta comes out before I physically install it onto my iPhone. Wish I had a spare one for testing... For the time being, the simulator will do for me to play around for the API.

For non developers, theres nothing new. If you want certain features, those are offered already through existing apps or if you jailbreak your phone.

Be patient and wait for the real stuff in July. However, I am expecting 3.0 to be a little slow and buggy, and see better stability and usability in 3.1.

No, its working with some carriers (certainly with telstra, as others have pointed out its pretty crippled at this stage, given its stage of development thats hardly surprising.

Yes MM push is buggy.

I am finding its usable but thats all, i would not consider running it on my primary iPhone at this stage.

Correct.

Probably all I could say under the NDA can say is 'ready' enough for me to be using it day-to-day, just.

It's most definitely not worth spending the $119 for a developer account just to get it.

MMS works if you have a working carrier file (and a decent carrier).

No, I mean correct.

MMS is disabled in the 3.0 beta, and Apple have said so, if you've hacked a carrier file then you're enabling it.

sigh.

Apple have stated that the MMS functionality isn't part of this beta. If you're hacking it in then huzzah, well done for you, you get a biscuit, but it's disabled, as is tethering and a whole load of user facing features that most developers don't need.

yeah mms is a part of the OS - he's just giving the carrier bundle the info it needs to connect.

I would hardly calling it hacking. You can install carrier files on any phone!

Only because Apple can't possibly provide MMS settings for the myriad of carriers world wide.

If supplying the info yourself is 'hacking' then so be it - it's still semantics. MMS and tethering is still part of the beta even if you have to enable them yourself.

i have found 3.0 to be a very nice..and have not seen any bugs..yet..
the safari browser now loads very nice and when you scroll up and down the page the page doesnt get repainted every time like it did in 2.x!
Another cool feature is that when you are in maps before you needed to drop a pin before you could use the street view. Now you just locate yourself and touch the blue dot and you can see street view!

Its only for developers at the moment has others have suggested. It gives us a way to test are current apps so see how "broken" they will be when 3.0 is released to the general public this summer (winter for us aussies) Also installing 3.0 will effect your basabnd and you won't be able to downgrade back to 2.2.1
