Is this something to deal with Jailbreaking? Because as far as I'm aware you can only turn 3G on/off and don't have any control over EDGE.
Also the reason you'll only connect to GRPS with EDGE turned on is probably because you're not with Telstra, and therefore can't get EDGE.

Thanks NR that does explain it better to me then, although still a little confused then when I do turn EDGE on I get net access, but when off I don't.
Oh and BTW not with Telstra although the phone is locked to them, but using the software unlock, so maybe something to do with the jailbreak, not sure. |

I've never actually tried disabling "just EDGE" - but I did an experiment just now using an iPhone 3G with 2.2.1 firmware, using BossPrefs, and I had no problem running in "3G-only" mode.
However, I don't have Yellowsn0w on my unit - so that might be the cause of the problems. |

Make sure you are running Yellowsn0w 0.97 on your iPhone. There are known side-affects with earlier versions that may be what you're experiencing.
