Alas the fate of the single button mouse in today's multi-button world!
Apple today announced that the single button Apple Mouse is EOL. This means once existing channel stock is depleted, if you want a USB Apple branded mouse, it has to be the Mighty Mouse.
With Apple discontinuing their iconic single button corded mouse, can the death of the single button Bluetooth mouse be far off? And does this mean a Bluetooth Mighty Mouse is near? For the answer to none of these questions and more, tune in next time...
Edit: Typo, added some random ramblings

Q, can you configure a Mighty Mouse to rotate a 3D object in relation to the scroll ball?

grippon,
That was the first thing I wondered when I read about Mighty Mouse. I use 3D apps and it seems like the perfect tool, I have stuffed around with trackballs and custom drivers in the past, but having a trackball + mouse + graphics tablet on the desk gets very messy.
I've been hoping that all it will need is a driver written by the software maker to support it, and that they will start appearing in upcoming releases...I even thought it might do it as standard, normally in a 3D view in a 3D app you would click to grab the object, and then move the mouse left or right to rotate it on the y axis relative to the screen, and up and down for x axis (and any direction in between). So it may work OK as-is...as I unfortunately just bought a Logitech mouse just before mighty mouse came out I can't really justify buying one to try.
Does anyone have a Mighty Mouse and Lightwave or Maya out there? Tell us how it works!
I just though of a new idea for a mouse: have two optical sensors, top and bottom, so that you can rotate the mouse on the desk to rotate an object on-screen...handy for PhotoShop, driving sims, etc...

What's next from Apple?
Danger Mouse - zaps the user if they use the OS incorrectly
Mickey Mouse - if used on Windows prompts the user to buy a Mac
Minnie Mouse - for PowerBooks and iBooks
...oh dear I'm bored

I love the single button Apple Mouse! Thankfully I have a spare.
I didn't like the Mighty Mouse at all.

I beleive they are using up all the single button mice in the new Mac packs, so they will be updated when all stocks are gone, then i reckon 10.4.3 rolls out on new macs with mighty mouse and the bluetooth mighty mouse is released and once again the CTO option is there.
Sounds good!!

thats true but they would add any sort of mouse to a powerbook. I think the question was relating to bundling with new systems from factory - iMac, Mac Mini, PowerMac,, eMac.
Cheers

Can a Mighty Mouse be used EXACTLY like a Pro Mouse if so desired (i.e. single-click at the top)?
