Have been trying to get my Canon n670u scanner to work on my new Mac Mini. I plugged it in and downloaded the appropriate driver from Canon which I have installed. I am told repeatedly that there is no scanner attached to the computer. So I downloaded VueScan. Now it sees the scanner but says it can't communicate with it. However, if I push the buttons on the scanner (copy, email and scan) the scanner window opens on the Mac. It's like being haunted-it is there but not really. Anyone ever have a similar experience or have any suggestions. The scanner is supported by mac.

Apprently there are a lot of driver problems with tiger. I spent about 4 hours last weekend removing and reinstalling software trying to get my HP all-in-one to work on my new imac (it works fine on my trusty wall street running OS 9.2). At the moment I do not have the HP software installed on the imac, and am using the printer driver that came with tiger. The scanner, copy and fax functions aren't working.
Until HP release the new tiger compatible driver for a 2710 I am stuck.

Its probably the same story with the canon - you might need to check that the driver you downloaded is compatible with tiger. You could also consult the apple.com support forums - someone is almost sure to have the same problem.

One other thing you could try - through first aid in your disk utility (in the utilities folder in applications), check your user permissions for your hard drive and restart.

sorry, make that repair disk permissions, not check you user permissions!

what program are you using to scan? the dodgy canon software or photoshop?

I'm using Photoshop and it now says there is no scanner installed! Must be a driver issue with OSx. Thanks for your help.

I just installed a canon n1240U, I'm running tiger also. I vaguely remember having to download two things off the canon website and install them in a specific order for them to work. Hope this helps. Will see what I can find

Hi

Have you downloaded from Canon both the Canoscan ToolBox and the Canoscan Plugin you need both of these for it to work correctly.

I have a LIDE 50 and also use Vuescan without any problems so far.

I am using Tiger 10.4.1

Stuff downloading Vue and stuff from canon that hardly works.. Get the sane-twain interface stuff. Even works with OSX 10.4.1 and ImageCapture ;-)
