I'm just thinking about Bluetooth mice and keyboards. When do they connect/disconnect, eg when you start up, do they automatically come on? - do they connect with the mac automatically, even before you log on, or do you have to log on first (in that case how can you log on). When you put the mac to sleep, does the keyboard/mouse also disconnect?
I'm thinking about the logitech bluetooth mouse and keyboard, with they automatically connect or will I have disifulties (like pass phrases etc), when using internal bluetooth?
Thanks in advance

When you boot up it's usually better to already have your bluetooth devices switched on so the B/T module can pair with them. If you boot up without having them switched on, the computer will detect that there are no devices connected and will ask you to pair them with the computer. All you do is turn on the devices and follow the on screen instructions, which are a series of clicking on the continue button to pair with your B/T module.
Hope this helps.

Well its a bluetooth keyboard and mouse, so in the start up thing with the bar shooting across, while thats happening, the mini is pairing with the devices?

Oh ok. I'm not exactly sure at what point the B/T module pairs with your devices but it's easier to have them switched on before you push the power button. It just saves the hassle of pairing later.

If this is the first time you are pairing your devices with your system it will ask you to do so before login. It will automatically run you through the paring process if it is the first time you are connecting bluetooth devices or if they are not switched on. Obviously you can't log in without an operational mouse and keyboard so it makes sense that you pair before login. The system will guide you through it. It's very easy and quick.

if I get a mini, can I use these devices for the setup? or do I need a wired keyboard, and how could you pair them if you cant use a keyboard or mouse, or does it automatically do it with out a click?

Bluetooth technology is compatible with most B/T devices. Check the brand you are buying is compatible as I'm sure it will be. You do not need the wired option to begin with if you have internal B/T. If your mini has internal B/T then pairing is the first thing that happens before anything else. As I mentioned earlier, if you are pairing for the first time your B/T module will automatically detect the "switched on" devices and then you will be guided through the pairing process.

My pleasure. But if you're going to get a mini why not purchase the Apple keyboard & Mouse? It will certainly look better than logitech. :P

Oh ok. I thought you were going to buy them. Yeah I know, it does take a little getting use to the one click mouse. It took me ages at first to get used to it, it annoyed the hell out of me as I was so used to using a two button mouse but like anything you eventually don't think about it.
Enjoy your mini.

I have the Apple BT mouse and keyboard that I use at work with my iBook.
Once paired - so long as the bluetooth was turned on in the last logon (I use multiple logon's) the mouse and keyboard can be used to log in - I turn them on then open my iBook and usually after a click or two on the mouse we are up and running.
When I have turned bluetooth off for battery running and get back to the office I usually need to log in via the iBook's keyboard and then turn bluetooth back on.
I suspect - but am not entirely sure - that the Logitech will work the same way - the key thing is the first pairing - once that is done and the bluetooth is turned on should not be a problem.
I like the Apple products but if a one button mouse is not your thing then you are not well served by it.
Make sure you download and install the latest bluetooth firmware first.

the thing is they don't support mac out of the box, so I'm just hoping they'll work, and that they'll pair as soon as I plug my Mini in from when it comes out of the box.

Stupid question time. Does the apple BT keyboard and mouse have a switch to turn on and off? Do you have to turn them off or can you just shut down and they turn off automatically? And then do they start up without having to turn them on again?
