Seagate FreeAgent VS WD MyBook Studio, best prices?

I am interested in purchasing either the Seagate FreeAgent Desk External HDD For Mac or the WD MyBook Studio (after reading Decyption's review). Why I have narrowed it to these two is because I am after a one with a FireWire 800 interface. (Feel free to throw any others into the mix that fit this criteria!)

Capacity-wise, anything over 500GB will suit my needs but of course 1TB would always come in handy.

Essentially, which ever one I find cheapest I'll get. Does anybody know where I can find either HDD at a low price???

Cheers guys

Plus there's always any of these possibilities - me - a fan of the Icecube Pleiades Generation II.

Interesting option worth considering.

Are you aware of which online retailers sell them?

Cheers.

a while back i was looking to purchase a my book studio 500gb or a ice cube 2 + 500gb hdd. i ended up purchasing the WD my book studio as it comes with 5yrs warranty. i wasnt quite sure on what warranty the ice cube has but the hdd would only come with 3 yrs warranty. from what ive been calculating lately i think getting the my book studio is cheaper by a bit plus 5 yrs warranty is great. i havent had any problems at all with the current WD my book studio 500gb and ive owned it for over 6 months now, its getting pretty full so ive been looking around @ the 1TB WD my book studio but it is still a bit expensive for me.

Streetwise. Australia's Apple Mac & iPod Superstore! sells the ice cube. if you check staticICE :: Australia's comprehensive computer hardware and gadget price comparison search engine youll prob find a few more online stores selling the icecube some with optional hdd included.

I noticed that in looking at Officeworks prices from September to November that HD prices went up, although for USB memory sticks they went down.

Because the economy is so utterly cactus, everyone is gonna wind up getting the cheapest "whatever" they can find, yet like any product, the cheaper it is, the more one suspects that it won't last all that long.

To say: "I've had this for 6 months and it's working fine." - means very little.
To say, "I've had this for over 2 years and it's working fine." - means everything.

The nice thing about purchasing MacPower Externals, like the Icecube Generation II, is that one can buy just the Enclosure - which in itself has a 2 Year Warranty, and then slip which ever 3.5" Hard Drive into it, that one wants, and with its own and quite separate warranty.
