Wireless help needed please.

Hi boys and girls.

Here's the prob.

I have a G4 running 10.4 connected to a modem via a router and I'm with Optus broadband.

Across the room I have a G4 Imac also running 10.4

I bought an Airport Express base station and my plan is to have the internet connected to both computers at the same time.

One via the hard wired modem and router configuration and the other via the base station out of the router.

Question: Can this be done?

When I connect the base station directly to the modem I can connect with the Imac but the status light flashes amber, but I can browse etc.

If I plug the base station into the router, same amber flashing light but no connection - the instructions say that I should have a green light which I only see for a brief moment when I connect.

The modem is a Siemans 4200 and the router is a Jaycar job.

Any help and direction would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

The base station will need to be in bridge mode for that to work, i gather you mean a setup like this?

Code:

    +-------+ +-----+ +-------+ +-----+--+
    |Modem | | G4 | |Router | |Airport |
    +-+-----+  +---+-+  ++-+---++   +-+---+--+
      | | | | | | *
      | +-----+ + +------+ *
      | | *
      +--------------------+ *
                                    +----------+
                                    | iMac G4 |
                                    +----------+
If so, yes it will work fine. It needs to be in 'bridge' mode, and needs to let the router (or modem?) to do the distribution of ip addresses. Maybe another member can figure that bit out. I'm the one with the pretty ascii pictures

I found this on these forums. Might be helpful.

[edit] Nevermind, that's just using it to extend a wireless network.
