Optus USB Wireless Setup

I got my Optus wireless USB modem today and I can not get it to connect on my macbook all I get is "connection failed" I have tried calling optus support but all I get is d*ck heads none have called back.

It is working on the PC so whats wrong on the Macbook ?

Did you pay any money upfront for the modem? Like one of the $199 modems from the post office? Then it's prepaid. If you got it for free but you're in a two-year contract, it's postpaid.

If it's prepaid, be aware that it's kind of a pain in the ass by all accounts, mostly because Optus doesn't officially support it for OS X (it uses SMS to recharge, and they haven't built an SMS receiving client for OS X) and apparently the drivers are pretty crap.

If it's postpaid, there are some instructions here, or some MacTalkers have had success in this thread.

You have to give it some time before it'll actually connect.

I find using OSX's Dialler tool much easier and less clunky to use than Optus's thing.

I got it working this morning after going through all the setting all I had to do is look up the modem in networks and add the number *99# to the telephone number then when i used the Optus cennection it connected something Optus has left out of there instructions.
