VoIP Via Optus Wireless or iPhone

Hi Guys,

I'm after some advice / feedback from people who have done either.

One of my clients is often out of the office, and their business is completely based around email and phone calls.

They gave me a call this morning and started asking a few questions in regard to VoIP.

They currently use VoIP for pretty much all out going calls within their office, and are extremely happy with their experience.

They have just purchased a new unibody macbook pro and are very happy (recent switchers from a dell vista machine). And have also purchased and iPhone.

When they called this morning, they wanted to know about their options for VoIP when out of the office.

Lets leave asside costs for now (i'm aware optus can be prone to charging additional costs if they catch you using your data allowance for VoIP ect....).

So here is what I am needing to know.
  1. Have you used VoIP on the iPhone, with 3G, and what was the performance like (who was your carrier).
  2. Have you used VoIP with optus wireless broadband. And what was your experience like.
  3. Have you used VoIP with another companies wireless broadband. And what was the experience like.
  4. Have you used VoIP via WIFI with the iPhone, what was the experience like.
  5. I seem to remember web based site that supported skype calling, where you dial the number, then their service calls you to connect the call....? Anyone know anything about this?

All input is greatly appreciated.

Cheers in advance.
Mallo

I haven't used the service, but exetel.com.au is offering HSPA services using the optus nework and are encouraging people to use voip on mobiles with it. It is very reasonably priced. This might be what your looking for.

I use VoIP on my iPhone through Fring, and my call quality is very good. Although it is not as good as a landline, the quality that you would expect from an iPhone on Optus is remarkable.
