Definitely worth the money. I've had this for a while now, and running on the n WiFi standard, there is minimal drop out. There has been a few times - a few lags, and that's because I'm accessing my iTunes on my external HDD, connected to an AEBS. And of course, Time Machine is also connected to this external HDD. So if I'm playing iTunes through AirTunes, accessing a document/photo from my external HDD and then Time Machine backup kicks in, the whole network would be slow....and might have a bit of a lag in sound.
When it becomes quite unlistenable, I cancel iTunes, load it up again and it's back to normal.
I cannot rave about AirTunes enough! Coupled with your iPhone/iPod Touch, you can utilise Apple's fabulous Remote app that lets you control what is being played through your iTunes at the tips of your fingertips!
My setup > AEBS > external HDD > MBA > AEXP running on 802.11 n
I heard that dropouts occur when it's on a mixture of a g/n system. My mate has a similar setup, AEBS and AEXP is running on n, but his MacBook Pro is only on g. So when his Time Machine kicks in, the song is unlistenable.

I have 2 - one "g" version and one "n" version.
The n version I use as my wireless router and the g version to send music to my hi-fi.
They are both on permanently, and have never dropped out. Ever. I am a huge fan, and the range of the n version is quite impressive.
My plan is to have one in each room hooked up with speakers so I can beam music, radio etc throughout my place.
I also take one with me whenever I travel, so I can have wireless in hotel rooms etc. Brilliant.
If you do get one, worth getting a program called Airfoil, which allows you to send audio from other programs/internet sites to your hi-fi or speakers (good for last-fm or internet radio stations that do not play in iTunes).

I own a G version, and plan on buying a new N version to have my N wireless network extended. Although they all hook up via ethernet back to the main network, so no need to use repeater mode. The G version works great, and streams audio nicely to the aim in our main tv/movie room.

That's my plan. I'm only living in a 1 bedroom apartment - so my speakers are in the living room...and I can hear music. But when I move to my 2 level, 2 bedroom apartment, I plan to have one in the downstairs bedroom, one in the upstairs bedroom and one in the downstairs living room. So three all up (eventually)

I love mine. I have some external speakers setup with a tucked out of the way AE and amp and it blows peoples minds when I pull my phone out of my pocket standing at the barbie and change song or adjust the volume.
I want more of them. At least another three (Garage, bedroom, home theatre). They're astounding things for the money. Not advertised anywhere nearly enough.
Oh, and they're a bloody handy access point /printer sharing device, too, but even if they didn't do that I'd still recommend them for just the airtunes function.
Mine does drop out when the microwave is on. but such is life when it's plugged in behind the microwave and transmits over 2.4ghz

Well, I've had my AEXP for over a year now...still working perfectly.
And yes, great for dinner parties. You don't have to be confined to where the laptop is...huddled, trying to go through your iTunes....when you can whip out your iPhone, and do all the selecting there. I've amazed so many of my friends with such a cool "remote". LOL.

I've had mine for nearly a year now, as everyone else has said, its a truly neat device. I've had AirTunes drop out on me a few times when I've been doing large transfers over the network, but other than that, I'm most impressed with it.
