Look for a new Wireless router for Mac/PC network suggestions?

Hi all,

As the title of the thread suggests I am looking for a new wireless Router for my network what consists of: Mac's, PC's, PS3 and Xbox 360.

I was looking at the Linksys range and in particular the WRT610N for about $269.00 with a $100 cash back offer from Linksys.

What do you all think of these Routers?

I was also looking at the D-Link DGL-4500 Xtreme N Gaming Router but I have heard that D-Link of late have gone off the boil. Anyway I was hoping for some good old Mactalk feed back on these and other wireless routers.

I must say I would really love a router to have 8 ports instead of just 4 as I have to use another switch what annoys me. If there is such a device let me know. I did find a non wireless Netgear with 8 ports but they where only 10/100 and I would like Gigabit.

Have you considered Netgear? I have one for sale in the For Sale thread if you are keen on Netgear ones [DG834G]. I got it today.

It is a 4-port switch as well as ADSL2 modem, WiFi (802.11g) etc. I don't think it is Gigabit Ethernet, however.

Out of those 2, I would pick Linksys over D-Link. But that is just because I like the design more. I have only ever used Netgear and Billion routers.

Only problem I see is that you'll have to setup it up in g/n shared wireless mode, as the PS3 doesn't support N mode. I see this as a disadvantage, so I have my G router and G airport express pushing out a nice big G signal, and then my TC doing N only.

I try not to make the wireless device do mixed mode support.

I use a Netgear WNR2000 Router. Used for multiple PC's and Macs. Wireless N. At the moment it is $129 and via redemption you can get a free Wireless N USB adapter.

Good point but will not worry me.

I use copper for the PS3 and for most of my other devices. Nothing beats wired in my view, but Wireless is good for moving around when you have to.
