Apple 23" Cinema Display Discontinued

Hi All,

The US Apple Store has the 23" Cinema Display as "Discontinued." The Australian store still shows it as shipping within 24 hours. Do you think they will make a new 23" Cinema Display or was the 24" LED designed to replace it?

It was indeed.

The 23 is done, I imagine it won't be long until the 30" goes the same way, and I'd be very surprised if they even kept the 20" at all.

Their new Apple display is freaking expensive though.
Rather get an Eizo or something actually professional grade.

Good thing I bought my 23" the day of release of the LED one. I think they are moving all to Glass Displays, they look great and probably expect pro users to be using an Eizo Panel if they are serious about true colours.

I like the "old school" cinema display because I have a window behind my iMac and during the day I cannot see anything and since the cinema display was Matte, it works very well

My boss was looking to buy 4 of these at the beginning of next year. We already have 5 of them. I better tell him to get a move on then if he wants 23 inch displays.

Pro users who actually have a clue about colour wouldn't be using a Cinema Display full stop.

You obviously have yet to see them in the flesh... I think they look much better than the previous generation.

You pay for what you get.

What would you recommend for Blender rendering?

I don't entirely disagree w/ frenchtoast's observations.
Pro users should have bought into ACD's up until about 1 1/2 years ago.
But the ACD's are now very, very long in the tooth and have needed upgrading especially when there ARE far superior products out.
An Eizo is only one of the new products that is superior to the ACD. There's plenty of great pro-colour LCD's now.
Sure the ACD looks good, if that's the only reason to buy it and not for professional colour reasons, then go ahead.
And don't forget that Apple sells the ACD on the basis that it is an all-in solution for pro colour work. I think that is disingenuous when other companies have truly great monitors for colour pro's.!
