Firewire RAID1 backup on two computers

An interesting problem...

Wanting to back up two computers (desktop and laptop) using Time Machine and Firewire 800 RAID1 back-up 2 bay box (mirrored hot-swappable 2 x 1 Tb drives).

So far works a treat using one computer at a time. But I want to connect the two simultaneously over the FIrewire network - possible? At first glance does not seem so as only one computer will mount the RAID volumes at a time.

Anyone got any ideas as to how I could go about this? I want a "set & forget" option.

BTW using a Stardom SR3610 Firewire/USB 2.0 box, set to RAID1. A NAS setup was considered but outside the budget.

TIA

1 Tb Time Capsule - which is giving me heartburn (won't back up). I'm gonna give it back!
iPhone 3G 16 Gig (new) - with Virgin Mobile; also used as remote for HiFi music library
iPod Photo 60 Gig (real old - battery is going)

Not without changing the box to something that can handle TCP-over-1394, or putting some kind of bridging device (like another computer) in front of it.

Because the Stardom box can't do NAS, it is stuck being a dumb peripheral, which means one computer at a time. Sorry muchacho.

If you connect it to the desktop and the desktop is left on, you can mount the drive as a share over the network and backup via that with Time Machine with the laptop.

Not exactly what you're after but could give almost the same results.
