Logitech Quickcam

Does anyone use the Logitech Quickcam IM Webcam with skype on their mac? I have a G4 running os x 10.5 and found this on special for $40. I know its not as nice as some of the other cameras out there, but don't see the need for a HD webcam for basic video chats.

Can anyone tell me if they are using one and if its compatible with os x?

Logitech Quickcam

You will need to tell us exactly what model of Logitech Quickcam it is. Most Logitech web cams are not supported in Leopard or for that matter any 10.x.x OS.

Having said that, any web cam that supports UVC (USB Video Class), which is an open standard for video devices, will, as of Mac OS X 10.4.9, work and do not require separate drivers They will just work.

Go to the Logitech support page and click on Get Software for your web cam and have a look at the OS drop down box to see if your web cam is Mac OS compliant.

If Logitech does not support your web cam try Ecamm Network which for a small cost will proberly be able to run your web cam on Mac OS 10.x.x

Thanks FineWine. I'm not sure of the exact model, just have the brochure that has Logitech Quickcam IM Webcam as the title.

If it is the one I think it is, (link1 - link2) or similar variants, then the answer is no, Leopard will not support it.

Check out this web cam but be careful as it will only run on some G4 models. Check the Specifications/System requirements area.

You can get a Logitech Quickcam Pro 9000 for about $90 from uMart. I have one, and it's great. Much better looking than the iMage (for the same price), and works with practically everything with the Macam drivers installed.

Or you can get the newly released Logitech QuickCam Vision Pro for Mac which has been specificly designed for Mac. No drivers are needed for it. Though it does not yet appear on the Australian Logitech web site it is available on some Australian on line web sites. Just Google for it.

It is not cheap - prices range from A$120 to A$135
