Goodbye mighty mouse
Well,
I couldn't stand the ball gunking up on me anymore...so I took the mouse apart, identified the culprits (some nasssty dust) and removed it....but of course now the ball mechanism is dead so off I went to buy a new mouse...
Ended up getting a Microsoft Habu (made with razer) nice enough...bummer about the buttons not all working in mac mode, but it was cheap enough and won't gunk up like the mighty mouse did.
Farewell MM, I do miss the ball, maybe when Steve makes one with a de-gunkable ball I might see you again

Yeah, my Mighty Mouse hasn't been working properly for a few weeks. I've already had it replaced for the same problem, and can't really be bothered doing it again. Seems to go well for a month or so, then all of a sudden, no scrolling.
If only there were some other good looking mice out there...

I've had mine for a couple of months without any issues, I'm still thinking of selling this to a mate for $35 and picking up a Logitech MX Revolution

I'm waiting for the new apple mouse with the optical scrolling system.
Now that would be cool.

I got sick of the gunking up and went back to the trusty Puck mice
brought it off eBay a year or so back and is the best mouse I've used in a while. I know most people hate them
but they just 'click' with me for some reason. The mighty mouse was the best mouse, except for the gunking
maybe they should just go back to trackpads (like the 20th anniversary mac).

I had switched to a wireless mighty mouse after the original gave up the ghost, but the new wireless one lasted only two weeks after which the right side button refused to work. I switched to the Logitech MX Revolution and couldn't be happier. A great mouse with some customisable buttons (using Steermouse)

I've pulled mine apart 3 or 4 times now and reassembled it with clean balls (!!) and it's been fine. I think it's coming up to it's third birthday

I guess it's ok when you can clean your balls. I got a bit tired of having to do it every few months.

I so hope no-one takes this out of context.
Damn, I just did.
Anyway, my mighty mouse is doing fine. Had it for a year and 7 months now.

Here's the big question then: would I be better off opening mine up and cleaning the ball, rather than taking it back? The first option voids the warranty (presumably) and the second means at least a week without a mouse, and then no guarantee it won't happen again in a month or so.
It has six months or so left on the warranty... I never realised how filthy my hands must be!

Ensure that your mouse gloves match your iPod socks
