Need help setting up Airport Express (AX)
I have plugged the AX into a powerpoint - the light flashes orange
opened Airport Utility - the AX does not appear as a wireless device.
What do I need to do to get the AX setup?

Connect the AX directly to your Mac via ethernet, configure it via Airport Utility (i.e add wireless security) then take out the ethernet, powercycle the AX and voila.

Do you mean connect to my Mac or Airport Base Station directly by ethernet?
How do I config it in Airport Utility?

By pressing the reset button, do you mean using a straightened paper to reset the AX?
I have tried this, that doesn't seem to be working.
Shouldn't it just show up in Airport Utility?
Help please!

Plug airport express into wall
Plug ethernet cable into Airport Express
Plug other end of ethernet cable into a Macintosh
Open Airport Utility and the Airport Express should pop up
Configure the network how you want it, ie. add passwords, network name etc
Save everything and the Airport Express should restart
Disconnect ethernet cable and your mac should be able to access the Airport express wirelessly using the details to inputted above.

Hi
I have found that, I need to log out and log back into my Mac sometimes for the second wireless device to show in Airport Utility (I have just gone through the process of adding another AX to extend our wireless range).
Once the new device shows, select the AX device and click continue. The menu is reasonably self explanatory from this point.
Options to join a wireless network are offered, as well options to extend an existing network. I hope this works for you.
Cheers

I should let you guys know a bit about my set up.
I already have an AirPort Extreme Base Station connected to an ADSL modem router.
I want to use the AirPort Extreme to extend my wireless network.
When I open Airport Utility, the Base Station appears, but the Express does not.
How do I get Airport Utility to recognize the Express so I can config it?

You need to reset the AX that you have. Paper clip into the reset button while it's powered wait for orange light to go nuts.
Now - the next step is important. Disconnect from your current network. Your Airport utility is searching on the network for a new device. Removed from network it will search for all devices.
It should now show up, however if you had done what others have said and used ethernet you'd have been at this point a wee while ago.

I think I am finally there! I have green lights happening!
Should I have chosen join a wireless network or extend a wireless network?
What is the difference?

Join a wireless network to enable both iTunes to play or a connect printer only from your AX. Extend your wireless to share Internet connection, share files etc.

I just picked one up second hand as well.
I have followed all the steps i can get it to connect with airtunes and play music through it via ethernet but not wireless.
The amber light just constantly flashes after the unit restarts.
Any ideas
