Hi,

This is probably a stupid question but...

I have previously used my Airport Express to both plug into my stereo to use air tunes, and also to plug my wireless (unwired) modem and use it for wifi internet to my iMac. I recently moved and have cable internet with a wireless router in one room. The stereo is in another room. It seems that according to my wireless drop down menu I can only choose between either my Airport Express (airtunes to the stereo) or the other network which I use to access the internet (wireless router).

I could live with this, but then when I went to use Apple remote on my iPhone, it will only recognise Itunes when I have the internet connection to the wireless router selected. So I can only remotely control Itunes on my imac, not streaming to my stereo (the whole point!).

So... Is it possible to have the best of both worlds, and have my imac recognise both the airport express and the wireless internet network? If so, (pushing my luck here I know), can you tell me how? Also, if I was to get another AE for Airtunes in another room, can it recognise that one as well, and all of them at once.

Not a stupid question at all. Open Finder > Applications > Utilities > Airport Utility. Then select your Airport and click continue; then configure it using the options for joining/extending a network; or just using airtunes. Bingo! You can continue adding and extending indefinitely (I have five at my place).
