Question Which external drive for video editing? with sleep, low noise, fw800

I need external drive for video editing(HDV 1080i) and iPhoto,iTunes libraries.
It's not possible to check the drive before you bought it.

Please recommend what should I buy,
I need following parameters:

Must have:
  • Will spin down/sleep drives when not accessed!
  • Firewire 800

also important:
  • As quiet as it gets
  • Raid 0,1 (5,10 if possible)

I am looking at Taurus RAID dual bay case. anyone using it?
  • Does it spin down /sleep when not used?
  • Does it use that Chipset everyone talking about?
  • it has external power. Why I read that it's bad? I think it's better because it won't produce more fan noise to cool power transformer inside case.
  • It looks same as Iomega UltraMax. Is it same/rebranded enclosure? (that one has terrible reviews at Apple Store (Australia))

what codec and resolution are your video source files?

ie what data rate do you require?

If you want quiet, I do *not* recommend the Western Digital Studio range of drives. I have a 2TB model and it's very noisy. Seemingly at random, it will just ramp up its fan and be incredibly loud.
