I think the HF-11 is just too new, seeing as it isn't in stores anywhere as yet..
Supposedly here in late Sept.

Just had a look at the Sony's HC9 on treatyougoods, but it seems to be an import -- not a local version, is that correct ?
Also -- in their terms & conditions it states:
Imported Products are shipped to customers directly from overseas. Customers are responsible for the importation taxes, customs duties and fees that are charged relating to the import and clearance process. In case some import duty, tax, fee is due, it is the customers responsibility to meet that expense.
Did you have additional costs to your imported camera ?
Finally, is there any difference between a local & an imported camera -- apart from the power plug ?
Thanks,
Cien

I can't answer for them, Cien, but I was not aware mine was imported. When I bought it there was no mention on the ad of it being imported. It was in stock when I bought it, came with the Australian plug and appears in all obvious ways to be a "PAL Australian/Asian model" although I have nothing to compare it with. It could be Asian model with an Aussie power plug....the manual has references to the USA, Europe and Asia. The camera was made in Japan and the manual was printed in Japan.
It would appear from what I have here is a purely Japanese PAL model.... probably made for export all over.
Regards,
Kevin

Just like to give www.treatyourgoods.com.au another heads up:
After reading this treat, I went ahead and ordered Sony's HC9 from them;
questions were answered very prompt and prices are great.
The camera arrived this arvo, and although it mentioned "import" on the website,
it came straight from NSW, had an Aussie powerplug and I can't see anything different to the model they had in the local shop (apart from the price tag)
I also ordered an extended battery & remote microphone with the camera,
and was advised they would ship direct to me from overseas.
(so they should arrive soon as well)
Cheers,
Cien
Great shop !

i havent had any problems with low light - i guess it depends what they define as 'low light', i reckon that either of them will blow you away with the quality of the footage compared to standard videocams.
in my case it came down to build quality, ease of use and price - and the sony won on those accounts. availability is also a factor - the sony is getting mighty hard to find.

I would have gotten the Canon, but needed a bluetooth lapel microphone and could only find the one from Sony, which isn't compatible with the Canon, so I had to go with the Sony.
Footage outside is absolutely fantastic, but indoors I find it a bit "grainy"...
I can't compare it with any other camera's indoors footage, as this is my very first video camera.

Congratulations on the HC9 kevinnugent!
I just purchased a Sony SR12 but due to home renovations haven't had nearly enough time to play with it. Given I'm new to both Video and only had the Mac for 1 year I'm new to many things.
Is there any benefit from emplying an external breakout box for capturing your video to the Mac or is it simply a case of connecting the Camcorder and dragging it off directly?
Again well done on a fine purchase
The Vimeo guide is excellent.
Cheers
Blade

Cheers Blade. When I connect the camera to the MacBook Pro it automagically starts the capture software and I "Import" the video direct to the computer to edit. I then burn it to DVD driect on the Mac. It's really easy and surprisingly clear and stunning on the screen.
All I have to do is improve my ability!!
