...and dont forget it looks even better on an HD TV or a good monitor, Vimeo compress it more to play it with flashplayer online so you are not seeing the full quality.

I have Canon SLR and Point & Shoot at this stage so would lean towards the HV30, but need to see if I could afford it before my US trip in Sept.

I found mine on eBay, klif. I made sure it was at least a local version. There's an online store called www.treatyourgoods.com.au that also sell on eBay that have pretty good prices. I bought an extended battery off them and it was delivered next day Sydney - Brisbane at the right price and is genuine. Can't argue with that. Oh, and I got the Sony, not the Canon.

Hmmmm the TreatYourGoods price of $1190 + $25 shipping seems quite good.
Seems to indicate its ok to claim on TRS (Tourist Refund Scheme) so I could get 10% back as well.
Hmmmmm decisions, seem to be buy a lot of stuff lately, MBP, iPhone, etc. *sigh* poor credit card

Thanks Galumay for the sample. Did you down-scale it, or did vimeo? Is it possible for them to host 1080 lines clips? What's the frame rate, and do you know whether vimeo adjust it?
Cheers
Steffen.

Steffen, the vimeo HD FAQ is probably the best way to answer your questions!

Little beatie arrived this morning. Wow, this thing is SMALL. I'm very happy with the size. My HD tapes haven't arrived yet, so I may wait until tomorrow to play with it. It's sitting and charging now.
Nice toy!

Sorry
Took a quick look at the HV30 in Michaels CBD store, seemed ok, but as it has been noted the build didn't feel all that firm.
They said you should use the HD miniDV tapes, is that just a sales thing or are they actually better quality tapes?

I just got the HV30 today for my parents. (Quick trip to Singapore).
Bought it @ JB - $1300 neat w/ tapes and bag. GST comes back to them tomorrow @ the airport.
I have to say that the thing feels very solid and firm to me (after using the HV10).
I'm going to look into the HD miniDV tape thing. I've heard dropouts are fewer w/ these than w/ the straight miniDV.
But I'm still loving my EX1 Sony.

Thanks Ric, yeah I was given an option for the size I wanted to transfer and chose the smaller out of fear of f*cking up. Next time I'll choose the bigger format.... as I also used iMovie 08 and exported it to iDVD.
Plenty of things to play with, that's for sure. The Rome photo's were a collage I was just mucking about with, and my wife like it, so I kept it. Tuscany, wow. You will L.O.V.E. it.
Which version of QT do you use? I'm assuming I'll have to part with cash to get the upgraded version from the one I have.
Regards, Kevin
