Mighty Mouse
Hi all, would appreciate your help on this one.
I have been having that now well documented problem with my little track ball on my mighty mouse.
It just doesn't scroll properly any more.
So in order to fix it I followed some instructions online,
Mighty Mouse Repair Guide - How to Clean Your Apple Mighty Mouse
Only to find once pulled apart my mighty mouse was different?
Most likely a newer model?
I doesn't seem to be able to open up on the hinge the same way as the one documented. It has plastic ring over the USB cable connection.
Any help would be appreciated!!
Muzzy

Yeah, I noticed when I got my new Mighty Mouse with my iMac it was different. The old one's had grey side buttons, and the newer one's have white side buttons.
Other than that, sorry - I am of no help

Just to try cleaning it without opening it, I hold mine upside down and scroll hard and fast to clean the crap off the tiny rollers, has worked for me for a long time now.

I've had the same problem with mine, I don't actually use it anymore as I couldn't get clean the trackball well enough (couldn't scroll down anymore).
BUT
A method I found really useful and kept the trackball working for quite a while was the sticky tape method:
How to clean your mighty mouse WITHOUT TAKING IT APART

+1. I loved the Mighty Mouse and irrationally stuck with it through two of them. Now I wonder why it took me so long to get a real mouse.

I just use a standard OEM Microsoft 2 button optical mouse (scroll wheel can be pushed for 3rd button). Feels great in the hand and lasts forever. Cost between $19 to $25. Can't go wrong really.

Don't get rid of it mate nothing wrong with it except for dirt. It always happens to them.
I cleaned my house mates using Metho and a cotton wool bud. All I did was use the cotton wool dip in metho rub it on the wheel while moving it. You will see the dirt on the cotton wool. Then I flipped the mouse upside down piece of A4 printer paper and roll the scroll around on it to remove the dirt and the excess metho. Done good as new.

If you've got big hands, go for the MX Revolution.
It's the best $120 I've ever spent.
(They're about $80 now, so it's even better value.)

Agreed, I have found it to be both cheap and reliable.

Is there nto a nicer mouse out there that doesn't force me to lose another usb port?
Bring on a good bluetooth mouse and I'd jump at it.

Buy a new Mighty Mouse and learn to look after it. ......Or just clean the one you have properly.
A regular clean with a soft cloth dampened with metho is all you need. Mine is 3 years old and running as smooth as ever. Best mouse by far.
This has been covered so many times it should be a standard feature on the home page.

Yeah I turn it upside down and scroll it on a damp cloth. Seems to work wonders with mine.
