POLL: Best Apple Keyboard
After listening to the excellent Talk Show podcast on the Apple Extended Keyboard II, I thought it time for a poll on what MacTalkers think which is the best keyboard from Apple. I have skipped a few (like the TAM, Newton and original Mac Keyboards) since the poll has a max of 10...
My pick? Even though I have mainly used the Apple Design, Pro Black, White keyboards and a Powerbook 1400, I always thought the Extended II was the best (even though I have rarely used one) with the Black Pro keyboard 2nd. However, since I my parents bought a new iMac this year I found the new Aluminum keyboard to be excellent and it gets my vote (also there was no nearby Extended II to compare against!).
Worst one? The White Keyboard. Awful design as it is made of clear plastic so you can see all the crap in it and worst of all there is open spaces between the main keys, arrow keys and numeric keypad to let even more gunk in.
Standard I/II
Extended I/II
Adjustable and Apple Design
USB and Pro Keyboard
White and Aluminum

Aluminium hands down.
So soft and responsive - a great keyboard all round. I hate using other keyboards.

Black Pro for me.
Maybe just because the keys are pretty spaced out for really bad typists like me.... but it gets my vote anyway....

+1.
I have the wireless version, and besides the lack of a numeric pad (which I am used to now anyway), I love the feel of it when I am typing on it.

Predict aluminium to win - purely because thats what most people see in front of them or think 'newer must be better'
If you're still using an Apple keyboard, it means you don't type enough to realise they are shithouse
Get a logitech or something good

I still have a box of Extended II keyboards back in Australia.
The aluminium keyboard is definitely the best I've used. The worst were the original USB, Standard II and the adjustable, though the latter because it was cheaply put together, not because the design as such was bad. The Pro keyboards were nice when new, but lost their feel after a while.
It would be interesting to switch to an Extended II now after using USB keyboards for so long.

are those keyboards new? I think Gruber will pay you some good bucks for them if they are?

The aluminium keyboard is a breakthrough in design for desktop computers, it reduces typing effort by a significant amount meaning that I can touch type longer and faster and more accurately.

Before I bought the aluminium keyboard I borrowed a Logitech one, the S 530. I was impressed with it and it was cool to have keys that were specific to Mail and Safari. But after giving the Apple aluminium keyboard a try in the shop, I knew that was the best for it's key-response and easy configuration. Not to mention it takes up far less desk space than any other.

I voted for the Adjustable... I loved it... even though it meant I had to adjust my key setup for Marathon...
Of course, a close second, is this keyboard...
Although it's basically a Powerbook 3500 keyboard, the leather wrist pads and repositionable trackpad make all the difference...
Still have the Adjustable, in its original box, with floppy. Bit dirty, and probably needs a clean for all the keys to work - the space bar kept stuffing up...
---
Oh, and the big chunky keyboard circa the Plus was best for playing Dark Castle...
