Retrieve Trashed Files From External FW HD

Hi guys,

Can anyone instruct me on how to 'see' recently trashed files on an External HD?

I'm working on a:

MacPro 2 x 2.66GHz
Mac OS X 10.4.11

External HD (networked) is a:

IceCube 320gb (I think)

Let me know if you need to know any other info. I would greatly appreciate any help.

Cheers.

Do a search here (1 & 2 as examples) for data recovery topic related threads. In OS X, deletion, for most intents and purposes, for most users, is considered more or less permanent. You can get it (some of it) back but will need to purchase 3rd party tools to achieve it. It doesn't matter if it is external or internal with the exception that with external media you can stop using it instantly to improve chances of recovering much of your precious data.

Thanks Kim,

Just to clarify, I have not 'emptied' the trash of the external drive, I have merely pressed Cmd+Delete and now I can't see it at all. So should it not just be sitting somewhere on the drive?

I have a Program called Data Rescue II. But I'm really hoping I can just find these files in a temporary location.

Am I better off just getting Data Rescue to do the dirty work?

They don't exist, as far as I am aware, at a temporary location. OS X isn't like DOS/Windows with an undelete function. Read some of the threads as suggested as someone recently suggested an app' which gave back files with meaningful names (I'm being lazy in as much as I can't be bothered reading through a threads that don't interest me personally). I'm also not trying to be smart or clever saying that but it isn't a mistake I have made for years and yes also that I think an undelete function is a flaw in OS X.
