Telstra Next G Option card stopped working in os x 10.5

Hi there,

So i was previously using the inbuilt network preferences in os x to connect without any problems. Now when i try to connect i get a modem error.

Apparantly windows may have upgraded the card from 3.6 to 7.2 and os x may not support it. Has anyone else experienced this?

thanks!

I previously wrote the following to blog entry which showed how I got my Option Express card working under Leopard (using the inbuilt network prefs).

However I also upgraded the firmware on my card (under Vista) to support the higher speed and it appeared the previously setup inbuilt prefs didn't work anymore. However I then installed the new Turbo Express Manager software package (includes driver) from the Telstra Business downloads site and the card now works again (I have to use the Globetrotter connect client however):

ah that was you, kudos!

I really liked having the connection managed by os x. Is the telstra software clunky? do you get much better performance with the 72 firmware? (i have an card here with the old firmware i can use).

thanks!

The Globetrotter software is OK however I too preferred the simplicity of just using the inbuilt stuff. I think the Globetrotter software has a few extra options however - to be honest I havn't really had a chance to play with the new config or do any speedtest comparisons to see if I get any added speed benefit - I'll endevour to take a look in the not too distant future.

thanks that would be great... i'm so tempted to do the upgrade but yeah, loving the almost zero config and it 'just working'...particularly seeing as in the past os x software upgrades have stopped the globetrotter software from working.

I'm using the Express34 card 880E from Telstra on my MBP 10.5.2.

It works fine for me NOT using the Sierra Watcher software - I set up a config in Network as per the post and it works just dandy.

Can't say I have seen any speed increase though.

I did run the firmware updater from the Sierra site.

19/5 - now it has stopped working and I'm back using Sierra Watcher
