line in audio through to internal speakers

hey guys,

this may be a silly question, but i have audio from a STB (long story) going into the line-in of my G4 Powerbook. The preferences show the line-in receiving a good signal but the sound doesn't come through on the internal speakers or through headphones plugged in.

how can i get either of these to work?

Isn't there a play-through checkbox in the sound preferences? (within system prefs)

I can't find the play-through checkbox you speak of, but the line-in app works great, thanks avolve.

Sorry just looked, it ain't in the system prefs. I've found it before in several different apps (e.g. sound studio) which all seem to inherit each others' setting... would this mean it's possibly a non-GUI system setting? Someone might be able to confirm. Anyway, glad you got your issue sorted.

I didn't know you could do that.

probably as a cheap (free) set of speakers for the iPod, as they don't have built in speakers… although I can't do that cause the sound in my macbook doesn't work (headphone jack just flashes… ekk)
