Scanner choice ?Canon MP970

I am looking to get an all-in-one that can scan slides and 35mm negs, and can print labels directly on CDs/DVDs.
On specs the one I fancy is the Canon MP 970.

Anyone used this scanner - opinions appreciated.

However from the Canon site FAQs it seems that direct CD printing may not work in 10.5.
Installing the correct drivers for this scanner also seems to be a bit convoluted.
Looking buy a new iMac in a few months, so 10.5 issues are a concern.

Also, in the meantime, will a USB2 scanner still work on my old eMac with USB 1.1 even at snails pace?

Anyone used this scanner - opinions appreciated.

Have had a friend who purchased the MP970, one of the best machines out there, but he had problems running it on his iMac, and the scanner did not work, he went back and fourth to Canon tech support and Apple, and neither could help him work it......

This model looks similar to my MP810, which I can't fault under 10.4.

I am in the process of scanning both colour and B&W negatives, and I am very pleased with the job it does. There is a very small sample of some of my scans on Flickr

With regards to the MP970, no issues with CD label print on Leopard. Latest version of CD Label Print (included with machine) works fine on 10.5.

Also, scanning is okay now. There was some issues with the MP Navigator utility on Leopard, but these have been resolved with the latest release of the utility. However you don't need the utility to scan. The scanner driver will let you use PhotoShop or Preview or Image Capture (that's all I've tested).

I have bought the Canon MP970.

Everything is working well on my old eMac with 10.2.8. Works fine through USB 1.1 ( sometimes a bit slow but no real problem).

The connection and software installation was a breeze!

Vuescan works when you follow the instructions that come up when you run it. The only issue is that I have close Vuescan before I can use the MP970 for any thing else - I need to do a bit more investigation on this one.

Paid $349 at Officeworks. Prices from shops ranged from $340 to $400. OnLine started from $330, but with delivery added, gave no saving.

Just wondering...what is Vuescan? Is it any better than the MP Navigator scanning software that Canon provide? I'm doing a lot of scanning of negatives at present, and am always on the lookout for alternatives that might do the job faster or better.

An excellent alternative which works with an incredible number of machines. Updated almost weekly in response to customer comments and errors identified. Great Value - suggest you try it.
