Configuring a WEP or WPA security for my ADSL and MBP?

Hi guys, I have done a lot of searching of late and either Im looking in the wrong place or there is nothing on this topic. I have just setup my MBP with a wirless modem and I am able to access the internet with a cable or wireless connection. I have turned the wireless connection off because I am unsure how to protect it from being used by unauthorised persons.

I have read a WPA setting is better but which one to choose from on my MBP? There is about 4 different types. Once I have selected one of these howdo I set it up? I know how togo into my moden configuring page but dont know what to type in the security section and how to link it to my laptop. An help would be appreciated.

Thanks

You start with having it connected to your MacBook Pro via Ethernet Cable.

When you enter the Modem's Settings through a browser, and click on the Wireless settings - WEP or WPA is fine either way.

Use WEP. There's a lot of paranoia out there, but what kind of person / hacker would seriously spend so much time trying to hack into your Network, unless he/she seriously despised you?

Make the WEP Password really confusing - like:

A7B2C3D4E1

Then give your WEP Setting a Name... like: Godzilla.

Then Save your Modem's Settings and Reboot it (Restart it).

Once your modem has fully restarted, log out of it, and then disconnect your Ethernet cable.

Click on your Apple Menu -> scroll down to: System Preferences... - click on: Network - choose: AirPort - and Network Name: Godzilla.

For the record WEP is quite crackable. WPA or even better WPA2 PSK (Pre shared key) is better than WEP.

I have noticed in my fine experiance of apple products. WEP is unstable especialy on the new N hardware so go with WPA

Yes, use WPA2 PSK; WEP can be cracked in a few minutes.
