I'd take it back and try another because mine gives way more than my old billion at home or the 2wire in the office. You dont have it on the same channel as another device do you?

The only problem I had with my AEBS was the fiasco over time machine. It worked like a charm otherwise.
If I remember correctly you are using the AEBS with an "n" capable Mac but a "g" only PC. As an experiment why not try turning your old "g" stuff off and only connecting your Mac to see if you get any increased range.
If you don't then I seriously think that there may be a pebkac issue going on.

I went back to a Dynalink 1025W because the range on the AEBS was inferior.
I live on a 2000sq m block with a 25 metre wide frontage and the AEBS wouldn't cover the rear area of the garden where the pergola is reliably (it is about 80m and 2brick walls away though), whereas the Dynalink 1025W does it at good signal strength.
Don't get me wrong... the AEBS was easy to use and looked great... it's just got ordinary range.
Probably fine for all you people on postage stamp city blocks though

+1.
I can take my laptop 2 doors down the road to a friends and still pick up my Airport.
Mind you its got to be in exactly the right spot on his front verandah to do it, and it is pretty weak, but it still gets it.

When my wife was having problems with wifi connection with her windows laptop to my DG834PN it proved to be the age of her laptop's driver... it kept dropping and failing. Updated it rocks.

That sounds about as far as my pergola (but without the brick walls), about what I'd expect for an AEBS given what I've seen.
