Unhappy New external hard drive not recognised?
I just bought a WD MyBook Essential 320gb hard drive. I've plugged it in to my Airport Extreme USB port. Nothing comes up on my desktop. What do I do now?

(933mHz PowerPC G4 on 10.4.9. Wireless connection to MacBook. Cable modem. Epson RX630 attached to Airport Extreme.)

is it formatted?

Format it for HFS and it should be recognised.

have you tried connecting it to a power source?
Have you tried connecting it up to the Mac itself?

Plug all the cables in. Power cable. USB/FireWire cable, whatever was supplied into a Mac.

Then format it as mentioned.
