I am seriously considering one of these now that I have decided NOT to get an inkjet multi.
I already have an older Samsung Laser that has been great- good quality, fast, economical etc .. but I NEED a scanner & this baby looks so damn sexy!!!!
The only issue I could find in my research is that the "scan to PC" literally means that & scanning to Mac means opening preview or similar and importing from there (weird since apple had an exclusive with these up until January - go figure)- this is not a dealbreaker, but I was wondering if this has been rectified or if samsung have indicated that it is going to be (in which case i will wait - if I can wait 12mths + for an iphone then i can wait for a printer !)
A couple of questions:
Does the scan to PC button work with your Mac??
Are you happy with the copying/printing/scanning quality??
You say that grey scale printing is not so great - can you be more specific or can you upload an example if possible?
also - how was your experience buying from an online store?
was delivery quick??
Thanks!!

Scan to PC button only works on window as far as I know (when I press it, nothing happen). Mac user needs to use scanning apps like preview, Image capture (comes with OSX), photoshop, etc to scan the picture.

Have not try copying. Black text printing and scanning are good.

You can see lines in the picture.

I went for online store because the $150 off is a great saving and made the printer a reasonable purchase. The online store I used (computer city) has the lowest delivery fee, only cost $8 through courier please. They do charge 2% service fee if you pay by credit card, which I did for the purchase protection offered by my credit card provider.

I ordered it on the friday afternoon and it was delivered on the following tuesday evening. It is 1-2 business days for delivery. Pretty good I think.
The printer was manufactured on Nov 2007. Will upload a grey scale printing and try the copying function.

I don't print at home often, and when I do it's usually a map on how to get somwehre or some details on a job interview or some such.
I buy the cheapest printer I can find. When it runs out of ink I buy the cheapest printer I can find.
Can usually pick up a printer for $40 or so, where as consumables will be $90 for it or something ridiculous. Better off buyign another $40 printer and KILLING THE PLANET WITH GREEN WASTE AND WIFI.
Ahem.
I'd love a duplex laser with ethernet but there's just always better shit to spend $350 on.

Colour scan using 300dpi and preview.
Grey and black prints and scanned after that.
The uneven tone is not that obvious. That is the artifact after uploading. The lines definitely there.

Many thanks for taking the time to do that!
I can see what you mean about the lines - I gather this would be an issue with graphics/photos etc ??
The scan looks great btw !
Thanks again

I bought the Samsung - it is pretty
I downloaded the latest updates from Samsung and the 'scan to pc' button now works with my mac - which is great !
PROBLEM:
I can't get preview to scan - the scan button is dimmed and I can't figure out how to make it active??
I want to import through preview as I think it offers better document management that the scan software from Samsung - I have found that unwieldy - for example, a scan of a 3x5 index card came through larger than my (very large) monitor when scanned at 150dpi -
I have never, ever used a scanner before except at uni for photos where everything is precalibrated for you so maybe it's my fault for setting 150 dpi?
But the preview in Preview looked great - exactly what i was looking for ..
Any ideas on what I am doing wrong?

Canon PIXMA IP1500.
$9 at a Salvos store-without drivers & cables (had those already).
Works charmingly-very good text printing & beautiful photos.

G'day,
Have a need for a networked multi-function printer to be part of my home (Mac) network - ie low volume. Photo printing definitely needed, fax would be nice. Flat bed scanned a plus. Would prefer to have seperate ink supplies.
Looking for recommendations please. Does any one have something that fits the bill and works well with their Mac?
Thanks
BJA

Has anybody had any experience of the HP Officejet J6480 All-in-One on a Mac. I think this is the MFC that I have decided upon but if I can get any direct feedback that would be great.
Thanks

We actually have it pretty good these days. One of Canon's first real four colour (individual ink cartridge) printers was the BJC-600. It was released back in Nov 95 and cost $1000. Now you can get something like an MX850 that scans, prints, makes CD labels, and has built in fax for only $450. Over all these years ink cartridge prices haven't changed much. You can still buy BJC-600 cartridges for the same price ($15 each or so).
I guess peoples perception is that ink cartridge prices should reduce in proportion to the printers price. Unfortunately it doesn't work that way since most printer companies sell their printers at a loss to maintain market share and rely on ink sales to make profit.

There's a funny article in Slate today about fighting the exhorbitant toner and ink cartels. He claims that Kodak are moving towards providing ink at a more reasonable price.
